Sad, but true. cry

It is sad... that Black Bull vault is probably filled to capacity with music that Stevie second guessed, and now no one gets to hear it...they can't even agree on a date for A Time To Love....I wish he was a little more like the Man from Minneapolis in that regard...with Prince, if you like, or don't like the latest album , fine, he can live with it either way...but it's coming out...you don't like it, catch the next one....

I remember background vocalist Jim Gilstrap, who worked with Stevie, once said that they would always hear some incredible music that they would beg Stevie to release, but it still hasn't seen the light of day...

Yeah, I think I remember hearing Robert Margouleff and Malcolm Cecil (two of his engineers from '72-74) say the same thing.

Yeah, You Know They've heard some good shit!! lol I loved their T.O.N.T.O. bank of synthesizers they used with Stevie---you can see them in that promo video for "Living In The City", twiddling all the knobs and switches...

What kind of promo video is it? I know Spike Lee used this song for the "drug" scene of his 1991 film, Jungle Fever. Do you have the promo video.

This was done around 1973...I don't have the complete song, but it seems like like the promo was done to show Stevie at work, laying down the tracks at the studio. It opens with him with his headphones on in the studio, singing the tune into the Mic while playing keyboards , then cuts to Stevie on drums, then back to keyboards , with Cecil and Margouleff in the background working with the TONTO bank of synthesizers, including the Moog...I've seen this clip on a couple of Stevie documentaries, and I think I have it on a 70's compilation video...

"Summer Soft"

Summer Soft
wakes you up with a kiss to start the morning off
in the midst of herself playing Santa Claus
she brings gifts through her breeze

Morning rain
gently plays her rhythmns on your window pane
giving you no clue of when she plans to change
to bring rain or sunshine

and so you wait to see what she'll do
is it rain or sun for you
but it breaks your heart in two
when you find it's October
and she's gone
and she's gone
Summer's gone
taking with her summer's play

Winter wind
whispers to you that he wants to be your friend
but not waiting for your answer he begins
forcing dangers' way with his breeze

Morning snow
plans to have a winterball for you to throw
but just where or when he never lets you know
if it's snow or clear days you'll find

and so you wait to see what he'll do
is it sun or rain for you
but it breaks your heart in two
cause you've been fooled by April
and he's gone
and he's gone
Winter's gone

you find it's October
and she's gone
and she's gone
Summer's gone

You've been fooled by April
and he's gone'
and he's gone
Winter's gone

Without a doubt, man. The problem I have with Plants is that Stevie favoured ambition over the actual songs. And for me it's all about good songs. There are far more genuinely good songs on SITKOL than on JTTSLOP. I dislike Plants for the same reason that I dislike The Rainbow Children. The songs became secondry to the concept. Never a good move, imo.

"Journey Through The Secret Life Of Plants" is a good example of the kind of thing Stevie really could be doing...a lot of fans didn't like it, but some music crtics, especially in Jazz publications, were hailing it at the time, and predicting that Stevie would become like Ellington, and go on to create several Jazz and classical pieces...instead he got stung by the other negative reviews, and now it seems unlikely that we'll ever see that kind of free flowing creativity again...

I remember when this album came out.People were shocked. They didn't know what to make of it.In my area, only one song got substantial airplay ("Send One Your Love").It was kinda like when Prince released 'ATWIAD' after 'Purple Rain'...such a radical departure.

This is probably my favorite song on the album....I think. It's nearly impossible to pick a favorite song!

But yeah,it could have easily been a single. The thing is,even the non-singles from this album got massive airplay.I heard "Isn't She Lovely" on the radio so much,I assumed it was a single.Years later,I found out it wasn't,lol.

Definitely Songs In the key of life. The first album alone is probably stevie's best next to Innervisions, and then you've still got the second LP and the bonus EP loaded with goodies biggrin . Plants is good, but it's one of those albums that was initially confounding and perhaps underrated but then has become reflexively overrated in reaction like Prince's Parade or Marvin's Here My Dear. Songs, conversely is one of those albums that was extremely praised when it came out and then became underrated in reaction to how high it had long been held, like Sgt. Pepper.
