Who else hates Mariah's singing voice?

I don't get the hype about "The Voice" at all. Nothing's more annoying than when she goes into that whispery, baby like singing in a song.

There's such a thing as oversinging, and Mariah does it all the damn time!

For a powerful voice that doesn't oversing or break into annoyingly baby like whispering, I'll just listen to Prince or old Jeff Buckley songs.

It's not her voice that gets on my nerves, it's the type of music she does.

Why did he post a topic on someone he hates? Spend more time on a real thread with real stories.

I dont waste time on people I cant stand.

I read a review for her album in the NY Daily News on Sunday. The critic slammed the album and claimed her voice sounded like a dog whistle. (I'm still laughing at that) But today I was in FYE in the mall and they were playing her entire album. Honestly, I like some of the cuts on there. I found myself moving the music and humming some of the tunes. So you'll get no complaints from me on Ms. Carey.

Finding out whether your fellow orgers can't stand an artist? Some may call that a waste of time, others just wanna know, I guess.

ok, well please elaborate. What type of music are U referring to? Popular music/top 40? What type of music do U want her 2 sing? rock n roll? funk? I don't understand?

Mariah is singing the type of music that the young teenie booper generation wants 2 hear...that's how U sell records nowadys. Sure U lose some artistic freedom when U do that but she wants to remain in the mainstream. That's why we have artist like Prince and Stevie who can give us that true artistic freedom and don't care about charts. But Mariah is not Prince!!!! She is a POP artist who gets the hot producers of the moment and makes hit songs.

She has the type of voice where she can do any type of genre she want's to, but the money is in hiphop/r&b.

hmm. ok. what other genres then?

rock? no.
jazz? no.
soul? nuh uh.
blues? no.
indie-rock? no way.
country? nup.
classical? heavens no!

and the list goes on.

c'mon man, the only thing she can make money off of is mass-produced SHITE and you know it!

Thank you David. highfive

Haven't really heard the latest release but i've always preferred her earlier tunes.

Vision of Love
I Don't Wanna Cry
Love Takes Time
Can't Let Go

These tunes represent professional pop performances done in a classic style.
They still sound great when they come on the radio.

THAT Mariah and THOSE tunes will alway have my respect regardless of what the "hipsters" think.

Another Mariah(-bashing) thread? Sheesh, she's outdoing MJ on the org these days.

When I saw her she only sang live.

And for those who say she wouldn't be able to do classical or jazz, listen to The Wind, Vanishing, or Subtle Invitation.

I don't see why some of you are bashing her either disbelief
Her voice is great !!! (although i don't like that whispering , "dog whistle sound" either)
I like "Daydream" , but after that i lost interest , because
i think she'd gotten too commercial

Personally, I love Mariah! love I love her voice, her body, her face...however, I can see where some people could get annoyed by her whistle register (i.e., ultra-high dog notes). What I can't get is how people keep dissing her voice for sounding crappy and then praise talentless lip-synching artists like Britney, J.Lo and Ashlee Simpson. Or act like music critics who jump all over Mariah for singing high notes and then praise the vocal abilities of Bob Dylan and Tom Waits. (I admit, both Dylan and Waits are amazing songwriters, but their voices make me yearn for the scratching of fingernails on a chalkboard.)

The other thing I don't get is how people today say that Mariah's songs suck and that she needs to go back to what she sang during her early days, yet most of those same people dissed her back then as well. I'm beginning to think that even if Mariah sang the most beautiful aria known to man, floated into the sky and had angelic light beams streaming out of her head and open pores, they'd complain that she blinded their eyes or something. Either these people's expectations are totally unrealistic or they're just dissing Mariah just to complain about stuff.

See, I think her songs have always stunk.
Coupled with "the voice," it's deadly to me.

i loved how she used her voice with she was with mattola because she used all aspects of her voice and it showed how powerful it was. Now she just whispers and sings "softly" with an occasionaly "whiny" tone...this to me is not singing but "just getting by"...
I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

Get over it. THE GIRL CAN SING. I know y'all want to hate on her because you think she had some crazy mental breakdown. It's pathetic how people will believe anything that the media says about celebrities. Shes an incredible singer. By the way, i recommend her new album. It's really good.
