It would be fun if Prince did this. The winners could have their mixes placed on NPGMC and the iTunes website.

Trent Reznor just did one of the coolest things an artist could do, and he did so in a specifically Apple-centric way. He released Nine Inch Nails' new single, The Hand That Feeds, as a 70MB stuffed DMG file containing the entire song in Garageband format with a note from Trent himself. Here's where you can find the download link. In the included note, Reznor writes, "For quite some time I've been interested in the idea of allowing you the ability to tinker around with my tracks - to create remixes, experiment, embellish or destroy what's there. . . . What I'm giving you in this file is the actual multi-track audio session for 'the hand that feeds' in GarageBand format. . . . Drag the file over to your hard disk and double click it. Hit the space bar. Listen. Change the tempo. Add new loops. Chop up the vocals. Turn me into a woman. Replay the guitar. Anything you'd like." Amazingly cool. I'm going to get started turning Trent into a woman! You should do the same; however, mind the words of Trent: "There are some copyright issues involved, so read the notice that pops up. Giving this away is an experiment. I'm interested to see what comes of it, what issues are raised and what the results are." Also, it seems to run on Garageband 1, despite Reznor's warning otherwise. So, what was underneath Tori's skirt? well, they weren't orange knickers, that's for sure! in detroit she had on black shorts  not terribly sexy but kinda funny when she referenced the detroit black out (which happened when she was last in detroit). she said something about "no black out tonight but maybe a black in" or something to that effect. then she flashed us all!  | |

Heehee I am SO jealous of you and Gangsta for already having seen her! I am getting so hyped I stopped reading the setlists cuz it annoys me; all them missed setlists! She is SUCH a jukebox these days; so many songs! |

She is SUCH a jukebox these days; so many songs! its funny that you say that, "jukebox." i kinda feel bad now, in hindsight, having asked her to sing a specific song for me. i have to wonder if it gets annoying having people ask for songs as if you are just a human jukebox. maybe that's silly or stupid but i did feel a little bad for bothering to ask for a song. don't get me wrong...i don't feel so bad that i would change my mind if i had the chance, lol! | |

Jukebox was meant as a compliment! I love it when artists do not limit themselves with the same setlist over and over again.
Tori is such an amazing artist, used to improv. It must be amazing to go on stage and being able to just do what you feel like, changing it as you go along. I love my jukebox. I play it all the time. |

I totally relate to what you're saying here. For some reason I imagined that the meet and greet would be a much smaller ordeal. When I got there and there were so many people, I knew my plans had to change. My friend had cd's to sign, we thought about bringing a camera, I wanted to tell her a few stories about what her music did for me over the last few years, etc. But then when she came out and nearly everyone she met was crying, something sorta snapped in me. I saw everyone giving her their life stories, pouring their hearts out, asking for pictures and autographs. I don't know ANY other artist that gives that much to their fans, but it made me sad for some reason. Some people look to her like Jesus and in that moment, I really didn't want to ask her for anything. And that's why I usually take a gift instead. I was really excited for her to open it. And I guess in a sense, that's asking for something too. Unfortunately it didn't turn out how I would've liked, but I really can't complain. | |

Actuallty, this is not done often. Very few artists release a MULTI-TRACK mix of their songs. As a matter of fact, I can't think of any other one. Artists release instrumentals and accapella versions of their songs and that's how so many DJ mixes come about. If a song is loop-based, often times a DJ will sample the loop at a break point in the song and remix from there. Essentially, what Trent is doing is releasing a full master recording for public use. How the hell he's getting away with that is beyond me. A label would damn near shoot an artist who did this. | |

Actually, Todd Rundgren tried a concept back in 1993 with his No World Order Cdi, back in the early days of interactive CDs..it was a bit limited compared to what's possible now--- you didn't have multi track mixes at your disposal, but it was an entire album to work with---you could listen to it the way he originally put it together, or you could go into the hours of files that made up the music, and change the order, mood and tempo, and make up your own versions of the tracks, or mix the songs together to make different tracks...He put that out on his own, though, so he could do whatever he wanted... ...
