Trivia: In the late 70s,Diana Ross was dating actor Ryan O'Neal. The two of them were gonna star in a film called 'The Bodyguard'.Yes,this is the same movie that Whitney Houston later made with Kevin Costner. For some reason,Diana and Ryan never made the movie, and the script floated around for years. Finally,in 1992,it was made into a (very successful) movie.I wonder if Diana regrets not making it first?

The movie would have been much better with Diana. I just hope she wouldn't sing that damn "I Will Always Love You". lol

As much as I can't stand Whitney, I will say, she did a great acting job in that movie. I just wish she wouldn't have opened her mouth to sing. lol

I'd "cry like a bitch" because Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell did it sooooo much better!

Ms Ross - worship

I love Diana but - for some reason - I've hardly seen any of her films. confused I've got 'Out Of Darkness' on video somewhere (taped it off tv but yet to watch it) and a 'kind' friend bought me 'Double Platinum'. That scene where she's having a hissy-fit in her dressing room... I'm sure that's just a secret camera shot they inserted in the film lol

Has anyone ever read 'Call Me Miss Ross'(???). It's supposed to be amazing.

To be honest, I've never been a fan. Her ego is just too damn huge for me. I do like some of the Supremes work, but Diana on her own has never excited me.

Oh come on, she's a better recording artist--and even then she's tended to benefit from good production (Berry, Chic). She's acted here and there, but be real. Aside from 'Lady' she doesn't really have that many performances to be proud of. Don't mean to diss sentimental favorites, but personally I've always liked bacon more than ham.

How bout some fried eggs and toast with that?

And some fresh-squeezed orange juice??

Oh, the "hissy-fit" remark was funny!!

You have movies of hers that you haven't watched and I was given that book by someone years ago and I still haven't read it! Since it's supposed to be "amazing," maybe I'd better dig it up.

im going to give her credit for both..

while she isnt a technically sound singer she does know how to express herself in song...and that shouldnt be discredited (see Mariah, Whitney and Joss Stone who have the vocal chops but cant tell a story using their voices for the life of them. I would add Christina A to this list but she redeemed herself with Beautiful..heres to hoping she can repeat that vocal success).

and as an actress she was our the first african american bankable mainstream actress for two films....then she had to go make The Wiz. giggle now i love that film (probably more so then The Wizard of Oz) but the film is flawed and it killed the momentum she had going. And despite the fact that she was way too old to play the role she did pull it off in wonderful fashion.

hopefully Hollywood (hello, Oprah...Miss Billions? You hear me?) will make room for our forgotten acting heavyweights. Dianne Cannon, Angela Bassett, Afre Woodard and Ms. Ross deserve to tell more stories.

I have a off-topic question.

Is it true that Michael Jackson was in love with Diana Ross as a kid and adult and wanted to marry her?

Ok, Alot of people may hate on my girl. But, she is a diva who can do it all. I loved her in Lady Sings The Blues and Mahagony. Vocally, she has her own unique style.

Here's my take on Diana's movies...

'Lady Sings The Blues' is EXCELLENT.Diana's performance was stunning. She rightfully got an Oscar nomination for that role.

'Mohagany' gets dissed alot, but I actually like that movie. It's cheesy,to be sure, but it has a certain "so-bad-it's-good" charm to it (like many of Madonna's movies, lol).

'The Wiz' is terrible. An embarassment for all involved disbelief

Hi NewPowerSista - I need to get on the case and watch the films. nod If you do find that book, though, I bet it's a must-read. (I know it's unofficial and a bit salacious but, hey...! lol Apparently, she comes across as a right diva but, whatever - she's earned it).

The only film I ever saw with her was The Wiz, so I don´t know it´s hard to tell. She was great in that movie though. She might be also a good singer, but I am also not much into her voice. It´s too weak like Janet Jackson´s.

Ive heard this before too but he was probably just in love with her "divaness" and showmanship and star power. Thats probably what he really craved.

I think he truly was and still is in love with her. Has anyone seen the World Music Awards from 1996 (I think) where Diana was given a legend award? She did a performance where she even went into the audience where Mj was sitting and sat on his lap while singing. I mean it was funny watching Michael watching her. He was IN HEAVEN!!! He was just STARING at her with this smile on his face and I kept watching her thinking what the hell is so special about her that makes him love her so damn much. lol
"When Michael Jackson is just singing and dancing, you just think this is an astonishing talent. And he has had this astounding talent all his life, but we want him to be floored as well. We really don´t like the idea that he could have it all."

I do like things about the movie, but Miss Ross (the Actress) does nothing but hyper-ventilate and hysterically whimper the whole time.

Michael was excellent--and so was pretty much everyone else. Still, the movie is unfortunately very leaden at times. I think it could've benefitted from a different director & screenwriter . .The resulting film does no justice to the source material.

Remake, please.

yeah, a few years back I kept hearing reports that there was an upcoming 'hip hop' version called 'The O.Z.' (with Little Richard as the Wizard) . . but I don't think it ever got past the development stages.

But I don't think they were using The Wiz material.

I like Diana's music a lot better than Diana personally (and with all due respect, she still has an ego that says BITCH all over it).

I vote better recording artist.

The Wiz was Diana's only low point as an actress. Other than that, she still have some good acting skills.
