Akon - Lonely - a gigantic piece of shit? Definitely a rhetorical question.
An idiot friend of mine who listens to commercial rap sent me this turd last year when the album was originally bootlegged. Of course (as usual) he didn't know it was a sample - they never do, if they listen to commercial rap. Not that "Mr. Lonely" is a masterpiece or anything, but at least Bobby Vinton had a voice. Proving that no real singer is safe, Vinton's had his vocals sped-up Kanye West style. "I don't get it," said Vinton, now 70. "They speeded me up. I sound like Alvin & the Chipmunks." Known for his wholesome, innocent love songs, Vinton doesn't even own a computer. Now, of course, I didn't think this shit was going to be a hit. I didn't even think it was going to be a single. Now it's #5 on the Hot 100 and will probably go all the way to the top. I guess that proves how out of touch I am, but thank God I'm out of touch! Truly a new creative and commercial low for 2005. Hmmm, "idiot friend", you'd hope those terms would be mutually exclusive.
Anyway, my curiosity got the better of me. Never heard of this "Akon" but I have heard the Bobby Vinton tune Mr. Lonely. Checked out a sample of said "Lonely" and my comment can be said best by a popular cartoon character. At first I thought it was very benginner like for production..but after a while realising who it was who sung the song "Locked Up" I was like..well it's better than his last single. Straight Jacket Funk Affair
Album plays and love for vinyl records.

I guess it's handy to have one of those around for comic relief. Headed for Vegas in few hours and I just noticed that Bobby Vinton is there. Wonder if by mentioning the name Akon... ...his head would explode? tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...rmusic.htm "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn. omg this piece of shit just hit my ears for the first time this morning.
that sample is wrong on sooooo many levels. let's start: -choice of sample: huuuuge era-defining jukebox hit -use of sample: ENTIRE chord progression, plus the WHOLE original chorus. -entire backing track music is that sample, no added production (shitty keyboard drums don't count). This is a problem when the sample was recorded before 1965. -the original sample meter is 6/8 and has been squished into 4/4, probably the worst part about it's execution -original stellar vocal has been sped up WAY more than any other sample has been sped up before (their is a margin of taste for this) It just plain sounds shitty

wonder why my first post didn't show up? Anyway....I'm glad you went ahead and started the thread. I knew this song was a remake, I just thought that Akon was actually singing the chorus. His voice is so god awful and nasal, I don't think it would've made too much of a difference.

EVERYTHING about that song is pure shit. I hate that song with a passion. The sped-up vocals, Akon's vocals, God, that is a sorry excuse for a song. Bobby Vinton should sue Akon for messing with his song like that. I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that
