BONUS TRACKS!!! WHY???

1. Why is it; in most cases, that the Japanese versions of albums get bonus tracks? pissed

2. Hidden Tracks: If they're good enough to put on the album why hide them before the 1st listed track, or 20 mins after the last track? rolleyes

3. Why not release a double disc or 2nd album with all the bonus tracks instead of on every single!? (I know it's a money thing...but I'm just saying) confused

What other annoyances can you think of when it comes to bonus tracks?

As in the case of Tears For Fears, with their latest reunion CD,Everybody Loves A Happy Ending, they put 2 bonus tracks on the UK version 2 thwart the downloaders!!

All artists are doing this now in order 2 combat illegal downloading, but no avail, cos it will never stop!!! nod nod

And how does this "thwart the downloaders"?????

People can rip the bonus tracks just as easily as they can the rest of the album DUR!!!

The real reason is much more simple than that. Promotion. People like free stuff. People also like to feel that they have something special. Every label knows this and does it accordingly. Everything that's done to a CD is done to encourage the sale of that CD. All the extras added, be they picture galleries, bonus tracks, music videos, etc. are all done to encourage sales.

it's done with most Japanese releases because over there, foreign imports are usually cheaper to buy than the domestic release. the bonus tracks are incentive for people in the Japanese market to buy the Japanese release.

And when they do it, it's a double disc so you have to buy the main album again mad

mad Yes. What if I'm listening to several CDs on shuffle? Why do I have to put up with that never-ending silence? mad

Or if I upload that track in my Ipod I have to edit the silence off somehow mad

when it comes to "hidden" tracks, the reason is usually because they do not fit in with the concept of the rest of the album. twocents

"bonus" tracks are there for novelty, as a collectible and to make you fork out extra $ as blaqueknight said basically.

australia, NZ and japan often get bonus tracks though at no extra cost...i'm not sure why that is....it could be because we have less selection in stores generally than say, the US when it comes to music. so maybe they're giving us a little "something extra".

You think their giving the japanese extra tracks cause they like them?

f*ck no..

their for the american public.. They know the fans will pay lots of cash to get that disk sent over. I'm sure sales has dramatically decreased with iTunes and P2P being the big hype these days..

In some cases (At least in the 90's) The record company didnt even let the artist know the bonus tracks were out across the country.

Sometimes those bonus tracks are better off not being on the album. "Fraternity" from Foos 3rd album comes to mind...

Given the accessibility of "Clap Hands", I think it could have made it to the album or jeez, been a danceable single. My various car passengers that have heard Beck's special edition said it was their favorite (besides "E-Pro").
