'Beat Street' Movie appreciation thread

Since we have a thread devoted to 'Krush Groove',it's only fair that 'Beat Street' is given it's own thread too (lol).Am I the only one here who loves this 1984 movie? It's too bad that the soundtrack is out of print...there are some solid jams on that album.Remember "Beat Street Strut" by Juicy?

i got the dvd. I prefer it to "krush groove" though it's hardly an all time fav film of mine. The music is good, if only there were newjack movies. "Wildstyle" is complete crap. I could barely watch it.

Haven't watched it for nigh-on 20 years (shocked has it really been that long?!), but I remember I loved it to death at the time. I'd be interested to see how it has aged with time.....

The problem with 'WildStyle' is that it's very low-budget.It feels more like an amateur documentary than a real movie.Finess is gonna kill me for saying that lol

I got mates who love "wildstlye" yet rag "graffiti bridge". "wildstyle" is just so dull. It may look authentic but I want a film that can entertain.

There's bits and pieces of "Beat Street" that I love. My favorites are the DJ scenes where he's mixing his ass off and the club scene where they are breakdancing their asses off. I love the whole subway and grafitti images too. They really give you a feel for the time and place the movie was set.

I still haven't seen the first one but I saw the second one when it was in the theater, and you're right, it was corny as hell. I'm glad to hear the first one wasn't so bad because I've been meaning to check it out.

Did anyone see Ray Don Chong in Mick Jagger's video "Just Another Night" where he was dancing around in a trench coat and make-up looking like Prince? lol

Have you seen Leroy lately? He looks absolutely horrible. He was on VH1 a couple of years ago and he lives overseas now. He's a stripper in gay clubs and was walking the streets in a long ass weave and those damn leotards. He was fussing because he had just been beaten up in the street. lol

Man, I loves me some Beat street! I only saw it for the first time about 2 years ago but i've seen it 3 times now. I love it and think it's the best of all the break dance films. Ray Dawn Chung is a sell out though.
