People seem to hate this cd here on the Org. I love it! Is it on Prince's top 10 best albums list? No, but its still a fun little funk ride. There are a couple of songs on the record that I never listen to (Shoo Beed Ooh and Until Youre In My Arms Again). I only listen to the last minute or so on When U Love Somebody. The rest of the record is a very satisfying funk and soul workout.

I love the pimp fest title track. I like the aquatic bass on there. My favorites on there are Freaks On This Side, Come On, and The One. Freaks On This Side is so slippery with that grease and ooohh.. those hornz, they just feel so right. I get so caught up. Come On is just fun to listen to on a loop while on a road trip, and The One needs no commentary. It speaks for itself. Wasted Kisses is a nice little surprise bonus track. Its like letting a peppermint disc disolve in your mouth after a six course meal.

This album gets soooo unfairly trashed. Its just not fair! Thats my twocents

i think this album gets less and less hate, the older it gets....especially after the musicology tour and his playing 'the one' at so many shows (and playing it so well). there are some real stinkers on this album - nothing can change that - but the good stuff on here more than redeems it, and i think it's aging better than anyone expected.

I didn't mind it at the time. I had only heard about it a few weeks before it came out. And with the moniker of New Power Generation, I wasn't expecting it to have all Prince vocals. I was pleasantly surprised.

btw, love your sig Anx. One of my favest Bowie songs.

Albums that you feel get ripped on undeservingly...

Despite being a pretty sizable hit at the time, Monster is now considered (if not the worst) one of the worst albums of REM's career. I think it's unfairly maligned; it's easily better than Up, Reveal, or Around the Sun. I love how grimy and distorted it sounds. It wasn't going to be possible to top Automatic for the People, so I think it was wise to go a completely different direction. This is probably the most "rock" album in their whole cannon. Plus, it has "What's the Frequency Kenneth", "Star 69", "Tongue", "Bang and Blame" and "Let Me In".

I completely agree with EVERYTHING you've said right here. My BF and I often argue about this album. He can't stand it and I think he's mad. It was a great change of pace for R.E.M. Something I think we need again. nod

I do agree this album has some good tracks. Come On is one of my all-time Prince faves, actually. But we part ways with Freaks On This Side. That may be one of the must twon most annoying songs by Prince I've ever heard (with the other being Push It Up). The crowd chants just work every last nerve of mine.
