Honestly I do agree. People call it a flop, maybe it is sales wise but there is some great material on this album. The Lost Children was too much, but otherwise i've come to appreciate every song for what it is on it. Sure he was following to trends on this album, but who cares? It's MJ not Usher

hellomoto said: i agree with you on erotica, it totally didnt deserve the bad critism it got (which it mainly got cos of the whole sex thing), but i have to say american life is critised because its simply crap, i wish it had never been made or madonna had of hired a different producer for a different sound, that techno/ guitar sound just got stale, and plus the songs just arent as good as all her others (although i did like a few) I would definitely be upset if her next album had the same sound, and I agree that the vocoder thing was so annoyingly out of date and rubbish, but I think it has some excellent songs right through the album - and could I just say I didnt hear anything techno about this album. I do think Mirwais is really talented, I think the problem was that Madonna missed a Pat Leonard type figure who could bring in that "classic" element to the songwriting, and let Mirwais focus on the experimental / production side of things. For me Nothing Fails, Hollywood and Mother & Father are the standout tracks. Mother and Father is just ridiculous sounding, but it works so well, I cant believe it was never a single. There are definitely things missing from AL, but theres also alot of stuff that we've never really heard from madonna before and i found it quite refreshing. What I would hope for next is a great singles album, where there a are 3/4 really good standout tracks, and hopefully something really uplifting and....well....poppy. .

The tone of the album called for less promotion and fanfare. It's depressing and dark. His Black Album for the 90's. All of the press I read from that time talked about Prince having 2 albums ready to go, one sounding like a tired throwaway and one a revitalized exciting fresh start. I mean, most of these songs are from the same era. I think it's a credit to Prince that he was able to take a large batch of songs and divide them up into what became 2 very distinct albums. Now Gold might have more classic songs on it, but as a complete listen, I get more enjoyment out of Come for some reason. As it stands within his body of work, I find it to be one of the least pretentious, most interesting works in his catelogue. Love it.
exactamundo to the nth degree. PREACH! I don't even care for The Gold Experience that much, but I feel that Come just might be Prince's most solid 90's effort. I love that CD a lot. To me, it ranks right up there with his 80's work.

I agree with you on 'Monster' (don't have 'Pop' by U2). This was the first REM-album I ever bought, simply because I was about 14 at the time it came out and listening to all that was rock and grunge.
It's very different from their other albums, but it has a haunting, heart-felt tension to it that I like very much. 'Let me in' and 'Bang and Blame' are superb, these two songs are able to make a pretty good album on their own. Besides, the rest of the songs are not bad at all!

People seem to hate this cd here on the Org. I love it! Is it on Prince's top 10 best albums list? No, but its still a fun little funk ride. There are a couple of songs on the record that I never listen to (Shoo Beed Ooh and Until Youre In My Arms Again). I only listen to the last minute or so on When U Love Somebody. The rest of the record is a very satisfying funk and soul workout. I love the pimp fest title track. I like the aquatic bass on there. My favorites on there are Freaks On This Side, Come On, and The One. Freaks On This Side is so slippery with that grease and ooohh.. those hornz, they just feel so right. I get so caught up. Come On is just fun to listen to on a loop while on a road trip, and The One needs no commentary. It speaks for itself. Wasted Kisses is a nice little surprise bonus track. Its like letting a peppermint disc disolve in your mouth after a six course meal. This album gets soooo unfairly trashed. Its just not fair! Thats my

I think there are far better albums to be mentioned than Invincible. I haven't listened to it for 3 years and I couldn't honestly care less for the album. It's a shame he doesn't trust himself so much that he would produce an album by himself, because I know he could if he just wanted to.
