Can't we just cut through all the rounds and declare Parliament/Funkadelic/George Clinton the winner?

Sounds good.....but I think I'd nominate James Brown the winner. All funk stems from James. I will do today what you won't, so tomorrow I can do what you can't.

So,should it be a battle between James Brown & P-Funk????

It would be a close one...but all of P-Funk/Funkadelic owe their funky existance to James. I will do today what you won't, so tomorrow I can do what you can't.

True, but P-Funk did the funk a little better. That's why James' title is the 'Godfather of Soul' and not funk.

A think it would be a three-way tie between James, Sly and P-Funk. The one who invented it, the one who stewed it into an eclectic mix, and the one that elevated it into its own culture. [Edited 4/11/05 21:35pm]

This is an absolutely great thread idea and I would love to participate but you have too many artists listed to vote off. I see some of my favorites listed in the list, so it definately would be fun. Unfortunately, the list is so long that I forget who is on it before I get ready to vote some off.
Cut it down to about 10 artists and it would be easier to vote off and more fun. After that, start another thread with about 10 more artists. [Edited 4/11/05 22:30pm] Andy is a four letter word.

This would be a hard one for me, I think it's clearly a match between JB and P-Funk, everybody else bit a little something off them at some point in their music.

, c'mon everybody, where's the love for SLY. Sly's just as important as P-funk, hell even George Clinton said that the family stone was the greatest funk band of all time.

I love Sly and The Family Stone but to me JB and P-Funk's body of work put's them head and shoulders above everyone else in this FUNK VEIN we're talking!

Not entirely true. P-Funk owes as much as their sound to Hendrix AND Sly, not just James. I know P-Funk had a grip of fellow JB's, though. SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."

William "Bootsy" Collins & Bernie"The Wizzard of Woo" Worrell joined. Actually you're thinking of Catfish Collins. He and Bootsy were part of the Pacemakers, who replaced James Brown's original famous flames when they mutinied. Bernie Worrell was a member of George Clinton's Funkadelic before George even met Bootsy (oh and he and Bootsy aren't related )

Make the survivor shorter and i'll definitely be up for this. Say 20 artists or so. Seems everyone has conflicting views already on who is the most important. Though i would split Funkadelic/Parliament/Bootsy up.

For yall who didn't know yet, I did make the list shorter. You can go to the new FUNK Survivor here. http://www.prince.org/msg/8/141326 It already has some votes, so you all can continue over there. You still have plenty of time to vote. PRINCE: Always and Forever
