Janet on Tina Turner-100 Greastest Artist

Janet wrote this about Tina for Rolling Stones Magazines 100 Greastest artist of all times
biggrin

Tina Turner has become more than just a musicial superstar and sex symbol, though she is definitely both of those things. For me - and I imagine for millions of others - Tina now stands as an enduring symbol of survival and of grace. Her music is a healing thing.
Remember that famous introduction to "Proud Mary." when Tina talks about liking things "nice and....Rough"? We all know that she faced some rough times in her life. yet the reality is that life never threw this woman anything that she couldn't handle. One of th Tina's big hits is called "We Don't Need Another Hero" Yet the truth is we really do need heroes, and Tina has become a heroic figure for many people, especially women, because of her tremendous strength. Personally, Tina doesn't seem to have a beginning or an end in my life. I felt her music was always there, and I feel like it always will be.
The story fo Tina's rise and fall with Ike Turner is well known, and you can see what it was like in the movie Whats Love Got To Do With It. But now I believe its time to put the Ike story to rest. The truth of the matter is that when Tina came back in the Eighties, she became much bigger than she ever was the firt time around. Ultimately, Tina's story is not one of victimhood at all but one of incredible triumph.
In the beginning, Tina's musc was based on hard time, hard truths and harsh realities. Think about a song like "Nutbush City Limits." That was her story. But over the years her story changed, and her music reflected those changes beautifully. Tina has the ability to dream, get out, get over and get on with it. She's transformed herself into an international sensation - an elegant powerhouse, But whereever she may be, whether Spain, Asia or Egypt, she's never forgotten her humble beginnings. Tina Turner knows who she is, and to this day, she remains one of the true greats. In every sense, the woman has legs.

Well I don't see any journalism awards in Janet's future (and you know I love her) but it's a nice dedication.

They've only been through the first 50 out of the 100

When MJ is listed, Usher will be the one to do the write up on him
If Janet is there, Ciara will do it
If Madonna is there, either Gwen or Britney will do it

And how many people wanna bet they list Bob Dylan as #1.

I thought this was just a continuation of their original #1-50 list from a few years back? Britney wrote an awful piece on Madonna, who was #42, I believe.

And knowing Britney i bet she didn't use capitalization, spelling and grammer properly.

Was it something like this: "OMG, li3k, i luv M4d0Nn4!!!!! She is sooooo coooool."

Britney's tribute was really, really embarrassing. Something along the lines of: "Like, me and my girflriends, we, like, always used to listen to like, Madonna, and like, dance around in like, hotpants and tank tops when we had our like, weekly sleepovers. It was way cool. Madonna is like, the shit."

And she even said, "After doing her thing for so long, Madonna still looks good."

Anyways, while this isn't particularly bad, it's not particularly good, either. I do like the last line, though.

RS should not have gotten other artists to write tributes for these people. That's what professional writers are for. It makes the whole project seem cheap and hastily slummed-together but that's RS for you.

proof for any fans lingering to the obsolete notion that Janet still has any actual thoughts in her head, rather than just the sound of tranquilizers rushing through her bloodstream to create a splash and an echo in that gaping vacancy between her ears.

Tina deserves better. and frankly, so does Janet. disbelief

and btw, how in the hell did they overlook Tina in the first 50, if she's just now getting her tribute in the second batch? that's shameful. she should be in the top 10. no one, not even James Brown himself has worked harder, had the longevity and the raw emotional stage presence and voice of Tina Turner. pathetic.

I hate these 100 greatest artists things, they never give the artists the credit they really deserve, the summations of their careers are woefully thin of substance and depth, and littered with tired old cliches. How can you make a dedication to Tina and not mention her version of I've Been Loving You Too Long, or the fact that she's quite simply one of the greatest raw performers of all time? I wouldnt blame Janet, Its exactly the kind of Oprah-friendly dedication I would expect from her, but Rolling Stone are supposed to be a respectable music publication. Is this the best they can offer in dedication of one of the "100 greatest Artists" of all time?

well, that's understandable. Tina hated doing that song, and said so in her autiobiography. although it is wonderful.
