Classic bands of the future You hear people talk about bands, labelling them as classic: "Beatles, Stones, U2, Vic Goddard and the Subway Sect", etc.
But which, if any, new bands, can you imagine ascending into this select pantheon in the future? And if anyone says "Franz Ferdinand" I will vomit over them.

Can't see Green Day being hailed as classic. Never heard of the other band, so that must mean they're shit.

I think Pavement will be viewed as an 'era-defining' act, even by those who don't care for their music - they already are to an extent, and I'd expect their reputation will continue to grow.
My Bloody Valentine's Loveless is already considered a classic in some circles, and its standing will be sustained as well, I believe. As for more current acts: who can say? I think the Delgados are an astonishing band, but they're so completely ignored outside of indie-rock cliques that it's hard to imagine them ever developing much status.

I love the White Stripes...but I guess they aren't in the conventional band sense due to there only being two members. Anyway, I think they bring it on every release and they are carving out their place in music history.

although i know they wont be considered classic, a band i think should be considered classic is matchbox 20. they are always constantly putting out good songs.

Queens of the Stone Age, Kings of Leon and Beck. Just to name 3. Green Day is already there in my opinion. I mean, they have at least 5 great albums. People wrote them off as a mosh-pit-skater band but finally have to give them credit for American Idiot. I knew all along.

I'm not a fan, but I'm sure Green Day will long be remembered as a good/great band. And White Stripes will definitely be hailed as a classic band.
