Tevin Campbell appreciation.

A couple of really good, soulful albums this cat made. An album like "I'm ready" is easily one of the most soulful albums of the 90's period. I really rate him as high as the all time greats of the 60's like Levi, Stevie, Marvin in terms of voice and passion. It isn't just the pitch, it's the passion he includes. Tevin put alot of effort into those songs, and it shows.

I've said it before, I remember Tevin and Usher raymond being rivals. I thought Tevin was gonna be a stayer, but "back to thr world" album was criminally slept on. He never recovered.

He can make Teenybopper material like Babyface written "only in my haert" sound like a straight soul track. His first 2 albums were for the teeniboppers, but like MIchael did with the jackson 5 tracks, tevin rises above the corny material and makes other songs like "tell me what u what me to do" into gems.

As for "back to the world". Why did they sleep on this album? It is adult soul. "You don't have to worry" is a sexy as hell tune. That album is a showcase of how to sing well as an adult. Usher ain't shit.

Tevin come back. His voice is simply one of the best and proberly the best in the last 20 years.

I don't have any albums, but I've always liked his voice from when Quincy introduced him ... and I always thought, "This dude is going places."

Well, He didn't really. Shame he's on the fringes now.

My favorite Tevin album song is "Tell Me What You Want Me To Do." (I like the longing in it)

But really, that doesn't compare to the Tevin song I listen to nearly once every day: "The Impossible Dream" cover he did for the Olympics.

Impossible Dream is my FAVORITE inspiration song ever and his cover of it is way better than any of the thousands out there, even the one by Roberta Flack. The way he interpets the human passion to transcend in that song is incredible.

It's on my playlist that I use for motivation.

Wow! I thought I had all his stuff. What album is it from exactly. Tevins stuff is worth listening for the voice alone (a thing no one has shown since tevin). Heck evne the "goofy movie" stuff was cool thanx to tevins energy.

It's from an compilation album called "Rhythm of the Games" made especially for the 1996 Olympics.

You know, the album with Whitney's "One Moment in Time" on it (which is also on my motivation playlist).

If I could email it to you, I would. But my email freezes when I attempt such things.

My bad. Whitney's IS on a previous Olympic album.

Anyway, I see used copies of Rhythm of the Games are being sold on Amazon for a penny. LOL.

i LOVE "can we talk" and "Come back to the world." One time, a LONG time ago WAY before i was into Prince, i asked my mom where Tevin was, and she said "Living somewhere with Prince's gay ass."

Tevin never took his shirt off for the ladies & never shook his ass on stage neither (like Usher today). That was Tevin only downfall.

And it's a damn shame because I believe that Tevin is still a better pure singer than Usher.

But Usher is better entertainer by all means. But if they ever battle based on just singing, Tevin can kill Usher!

Oh yeah. Tevin could kick Ursha's ass in singing no doubt.

Tevin had some great tunes - Can We Talk and I love Tell Me What You Want Me to Do. He also sounded good on his remake of the Brothers Johnson's Tomorrow, but was given terrible lyrics to sing. He had a great voice, but the problem was that there was nothing distinguishing about his singing or his choice in songs.

I read somewhere that Tevin finally came out the closet and is living w/his partner Rashann Patterson. Actually, they toured together in Africa. We did a thread about this in the org not to long ago.

If you mean Always In My Heart, I disagree about that being teenbopper material, but I do agree that it's soulful. That's one of my favorite songs Tevin has recorded. If you're interested in Tevin beyond his own solo albums, these are some song titles you should look for (from various soundtracks and compilations):

Everything
Eye To Eye
Get Yo Groove On
I Know That My Redeemer Liveth
Keep On Pushin
Knocks Me Off My Feet
No More Fighting
O Holy Night
One Hand, One Heart
One Kiss (With Paul Anka)
Stand Out
The Impossible Dream

Thanks for the link to the blurb, even though that's not an indication that either Tevin or Rahsaan have actually come out of the closet. I'd like to hear it from their lips, so to speak.

Recently, Tevin did do an interview for Sister 2 Sister where he did indicate the following so evidently this is common knowledge. Check back issues.

In THAT interview, Tevin didn't say he was gay or bisexual. He said he was trysexual (as in he will try anything once]!

I know it was a bunch of BS. But it was funny in it context.
