Mariah Carey - Your Girl

Damn, this sounds like something Teena Marie would have cut during the "I Need Your Lovin'" sessions! Props to Mariah for this song. Also a gorgeous showcase for her voice.

I just saw it at the wrecka store this morning, and I'm in New Zealand. Has it not been released in the states yet? I couldn't get over how much she's looking like Beyonce on the cover. She's getting a lot of good word of mouth on this, I'm almost tempted.

It's released on Tuesday in the States. I just got my Japanese edition yesterday, and it's great.

The cover is pretty blah, maybe the one thing other than "Say Something" that I dislike about this project. I would have chosen a black-and-white shot, something classy. Instead of adding to the whole porn star vibe she's got going with that horrible title. Great music within, though.

Apparently theres a sample in this track of a New Zealand group called Adeaze.

Heres a review from an Aussie paper as well

5/10

With her acting career mercifully on hold, Mariah Carey's first album in three years finds the fallen chanteuse still trying to up her focus as an r&b performer whilst still slipping in the odd ballad. Its the former that offers the few highlights, with the Neptunes keeping her from overemoting on Say Something. The theme of artistic and personal freedom - Mimi is Carey's alter ego - is only marginally addressed, although the cover suggests that Mimi looks remarkably like Beyonce.

The covers going to dog Mariah in every review, it's just too close.

I have to say most of mariahs recent stuff has been hit and miss, charmbracelet had like 4 decent songs on it, rainbow was half good half bad, glitter was a good listen but nothing outstanding. Not since butterfly have we heard mariah anywhere near her peak, but i have to admit "Emancipation of MiMi" is probably a new peak for her. Out of 14 tracks, 10 of them could be big hits. The hip/hop additions work well for the first time in her career and the ballads are her absolute best. Im loving it!

It's one of my favorites on the album. I haven't yet gotten the official release, so I don't know the producers, but did Kanye do this track? I'm guessing so, because of what sounds like a sped up vocal sample. lol
