Michael Bolton VS the world (and Bon Jovi!)

Why people hate Michael yet love an act like Bon Jovi? Bon Jovi goes even more overboard on the cheese then Bolton does. at least Bokton had a unique voice.

"how can we be lovers...." rocks harder then anything that twat Jovi did. Same with froggy adams.

I do not like all of Mikes songs, but Iam surprised at how rockin' "how can we be lovers" is.....give him some respect for at least that song.

Yeah, it was bad. Is this much worse?

I know a few people who like Bon Jovi, and a few here on the org do to. I know Iam always gunning for the pissed on, but I feel he Mike a few good songs. Mariahs early albums might as well be dubbed as "the female Michael Bolton". Mikes voice has grown on me. People hate his voice. But they gotta see passed the awful "image" and supposed crap voice. Name one singer who can sing like him? He has a good voice, though, as alot of singers did do back then (rockers included), he did go overboard at times

Yeah her too. Mariahs early stuff is sometimes produced by russian cheeseman Walter affansieff. Both artists were on sony. Michael was big at the time. I bet Tommy dubbed her "the female Michael Bolton". Beleive it or not, celines stuff is way more OTT production wise then Michaels.

Mariah was patterened after Whitney Houston, not Michael Bolton.

But "hero" is sooooo second rate Bolton as is "vision of love". I know what ur saying. its just the prodcuers are the same. Luckily Whitney had Narada Michael Walden during her prime. Walter was a spin off if u will of narada. Walter used to work for him. Wlater immitated his "twinkling" sound.

Mariah is also a first rate singer. Shame people refuse to see that in Michael.

Vision Of Love ain't second rate anything - screw your head on right! lol

Ha! U ain't heard any Bolton! I don't mind "vision of love", but it does seem like a prototype Bolton song. "hero" is pure garbage. Bolton preys on the formulaic "reach ur goals" type shit too, but that song is just too much.

Occasionally Bolton can even get a bit dark, as on the rocking "steel bars", a song which was co written by Bob Dylan (WTF? Bob was a Bolton fan?)

I've heard enough Bolton to know he's crap! Man, that fuckin' "Soul Provider" album - what a hoot. The most soulless crap you'll ever come across.

Yeah, "Hero" is crap. I'm not a fan of it. But "Vision Of Love" is better than anything Michael ever recorded.

What the fuk. Slowly back away from the classic Bon Jovi album.

confused That album has its moments. "how can we be lovers" "when I'm back on my feet again" "its only my heart"

I still occasionally catch the "when I'm back on my feet" video. Just Michael in a huge empty room (a school gym) and its all dark with pretty colours fading in and out. U see a wheelchair guy training etc.....pretty shady, but I like it.

Not that I care about image, but Michael had NONE. He let his music do the talking. He was crap in his videos. I don't know if music critc's gave his stuff bad reviews (which some people are so obsessed about) but his shit ain't souless.

You mean, other than the "hot, square-jawed Fabio clone" schtick they played up to the max?

And yeah, thesexofit, it is pretty soulless stuff. Soulless late 80's remakes of soulful originals.

But I must say: falloff at the thought of a wheelchair-ridden dude in a video for "I'M BACK ON MY FEET".

Yeah that shit is funny. Pretty heavy handed stuff. Oh god his remakes are dreadful. "sitting at the dock of the bay" was at least a alternative to the original, but yeah it was suicide to remake the songs he chose.

The biggest hurdle for me was to get past those god awful album covers. They are hideous.

But, this cover is ok though

That album, dropped in 1987, is actually quite hard (if synth filled) rock. No fooling. Infact, he tried to be a cheesy poodle head before settling on MOR stuff.

Again a awful album cover but I bet a few bon jovi fans or whatever, before Michael was really big, bought this album.

Not sure you were suggesting otherwise, but, for the record, I don't consider myself a member of the Bon Jovi Army.

I think you arguement is off since I think if most people hate one, they probably hate the other. I like Bon Jovi but not the the point of buying anything from them (I've thought about getting their hits disc but pass on it) and I can't get into Bolton but can understand why he has some fans. Not a bad voice and he does write some good songs (wrote "I Found Someone" for Laura Brangin but Cher made it a hit not to mention a few others for both).

Now "How Can We Be Lovers..." rocking harder than Bon Jovi? Huh? It's an upbeat pop song with guitar but I would hardly consider it harder than the stuff Jovi was doing (and they weren't hard). It's apples and oranges. But did you know apprently Bolton used to be a metal singer (although probably not a very hard metal one)?

? Iam surprised not one person likes a michael bolton song. Babyface wrote a couple of nice songs for him (the most recent michael album I got is 1996) I do not want anymore and I do not have the covers album.

The difference is that Bon Jovi didn't always suck. Their music was at one time good. Michael Bolton cracked out of the egg bad. I admit that he's written a few decent songs, but he shoulda just let somebody else sing them. I can't remember who it was, but one of the old Grammy fogeys was publicly rankin' on his vocal style the year Natalie Cole won all her Grammys.

I don't know that he did. The comment was directed at him. Something along the lines of "I'm glad they honered this music over some guy who gives himself a hernia when he sings." Can't remember the exact wording, but that was the sentiment.
