Album Release Schedules ?

Why does it take so long now a days to release an album. Back in the day, artist would release at least one album a year, now it is 3 to 4 years to wait for a new album from an artist.

For example, from Dec 18, 1969 to October 15, 1970, not even a whole year, the Jackson Five released 4 albums )Diana Ross Presents ..., ABC, Third Album and Christmas Album

Usher releases 8701 on August 7, 2001 then almost 3 years later, released Confesions on March 23, 2004

the J5 (including Mike, Jermaine and Jackie solos) released 20 albums in a 6 year eriod while Usher has 5 albums in 11 years.

Why is that?

Because albums were often 8 or 9 tracks recorded with a live band back then. Now they have to be 75-minute epics with intricate electronic production.
