A Love Supreme vs. Kind of Blue Pursuance is one of my favorite jazz songs and A Love Supreme is a classic and should probably be compared to something like Empyrean Isles, but these two albums (A Love Supreme and Kind of Blue) are always ranked as the best
I think there’s no contest here, Kind of Blue is awesome, I know Coltrane played on Kind of Blue also, which makes it kinda of a Coltrane record also. I think Coltrane and P would have made a good pair.

It is extraordinarily hard to compare these two albums.
KOB was a revolutionary statement. ALS was literally a prayer. Both were otherworldly. Good night, sweet Prince | 7 June 1958 - 21 April 2016

KOB was a revolutionary statement. ALS was literally a prayer. Both were otherworldly. You must choose... Always demanding! Durn! I'd have to go with KOB because ALS is beautiful, classic, but a difficult and sometimes painful listen. KOB is simply serene outer space. Good night, sweet Prince | 7 June 1958 - 21 April 2016

For me there's no way to choose one over the other as they serve different purposes.
A Love Supreme for its emotional component Kind of Blue for its intellectual component Regarding a Coltrane/Prince colab, I could only see that happening if Coltrane was hired by Prince to play on one of his sessions. I don't believe there's any way in hell Prince could hang on a Coltrane session. I respect Prince for what he does but he is not a Jazz musician. You don't just wake up one morning and decide that you're suddenly a Jazz player. I'm willing to bet the farm that if John Coltrane came back to life tonight, called Prince into the studio with the rhythm section on the ALS recording and called Giant Steps, Prince would be like an Israelite lost in the wilderness. Might end up homeless based on such a wager, but I doubt it seriously. tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...rmusic.htm "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn. I will go with a A Love Supreme over Kind of Blue. It's a tough call, but Coltrane's passion and new found spirituality permeates your senses. They are both legendary albums worthy of the accolades bestowed upon them, but I will give A Love Supreme the nod in this comparison. [Edited 4/5/05 23:24pm]

I love both but if I had to choose one to take on a trip it would be A Love Supreme.

Kind of Blue for me. I really adore A Love Supreme, but there are only certain times, places and circumstances that I can listen to it. I appreciate emotional, but I think my personality just naturally levitates to Kind of Blue whenever I hear it. I see what tA/namepeace is saying about the emotional/intellectual standoff, but I really wouldn't say that Kind of Blue lacks the feeling...it's the absolute pinnacle of coolness - it's completely in control of it's emotion, whereas A Love Supreme gives it free rein ..... BULLSEYE!
