Songs you thought at first were covers but really aren't

Prince - Cinnamon Girl
50 Cent - Disco Inferno
Nicole Wray - If I Was Your Girlfriend

I first saw these songs in print before hearing them and my first reaction was "Oh no they didn't!"

Fortunately they didn't.

Anyone else know of songs that borrowed titles from other well known songs and weren't covers of those songs? I'm talking about ones that are a little more unique than "Hold On".

Not that "Disco Inferno" by the Tramps was that great of a song (IMHO), but shame on Fiddy for using the title and fooling people. It's basically "In the Club" but with a cathy name.

Good topic. When I first say "Cinnamon girl" I thought if anyone could do this Neil song justice it would Prince. I think Type O Negative did a cover of it and it wasn't bad. I do like Prince's new CG a lot.

Unfornately, I can't think of any of the topic of my head. I know one where I wasn't expecting a cover because the title was so generic. It was a cover of Fleetwood Mac (sung by Christine McVie) song "Everything" by Chaka. I know the covers are often flattering to the original artist but she shouldn't....no really, thanks but you really shouldn't have....a very bland Chaka track.

Type O's version was the very first time I heard that song. I like that cover a lot. I like that whole 'October Rust' album.

I believe that Bob Dylan, Fleetwood Mac, and Jefferson Starship all have songs called "Sara". They're different songs, of course

I seriously used to think that a LOT o P's songs were covers. I didn't know he did all that shit by his self. I thought cuz he could play so many instruments that he just went around covering other people's music.

I remember the 1st time I heard "Love U More" by Sunscreem I thought it was a cover. Apparently, not the case.

Not on topic, but when I heard "I Wanna Be Your Lover" when I was a kid I thought it was The Emotions, and didn't know the truth until I heard P play it live on the Lovesexy tour, which inspired me to go out and get the album.

I remember thinking for a second that Prince's "Gett Off" might have been the same as the b-side "Get Off" that he had just released a few months earlier. I'm glad it wasn't.

He also recorded two songs named "Girl" but I never confused the two.

George Michael is the only other person I can think of right now that recorded two different songs with the same title (Freedom).
