Styx - The Grand Illusion

I recently purchased this album. I bought it primarily because I've always loved the song Come Sail Away (the movie Vigin Suicides made perfect use of it in a prom scene), but quickly found that I love just about every song on it especially Miss America and the title track. I'm apparently in my 70s arena rock phase. I'm finding myself drawn to a lot of albums like this lately.

I'm ALSO in my 70's arena rock phase, (well, that's my life I guess) but I don't have this album. biggrin

Of course, I know "Come Sail Away" but now I can't hear it without thinking of South Park. falloff

lol Fortunately for me, I have a good association with the song. It doesn't help that Virgin Suicides is one of my fave books/movies/soundtracks. That scene in particular is well-done.

Great album, great group, great era.

It's also used awesomely in an episode of Freaks and Geeks. In fact it was that episode that made me dust off a lot of my old late 70s/early 80s rock records (I bought the Freaks and Geeks DVD set recently...HIGHLY recommended btw).

Journey, REO Speedwagon, Queen, ELO, Boston, Peter Frampton, KISS, Foreigner. I love 'em all...but in small doses. Too much and I get a stomach ache...as eating too much CHEESE will always do.

My absolute fave Styx album will always be Paradise Theater. I smooched my 1st girlfriend while slow-dancing to Best of Times at my 7th grade dance.

I went to their concert (styx) last summer. It was pretty damn good, but they did this 20 minute medley that encompassed a bunch of great songs, which they should have just played in their entirety. That part was kinda crappy.
