Why can't anybody put out 3 good cd's anymore? not limiting this to any one genre or style, or any particular time period, but damn...it seems like somebody will blow up on the scene with some hot shit debut cd, get labeled a genius or groundbreaking, or even just sell a zillion copies, and then poof..gone by cd 3 or 4. i know some peeps will say that record companies don't allow artists to grow like back in the day, but some of the shit they put out doesn't deserve to be nurtured. I can always appreciate the Prince's, U2's, Nancy Wilson's and Gladys Knight's of the world because they continually put out good, if not spectacular music. A few acts that came on strong and then went the way of WTF that i can think of:
Maxwell Terrence Trent D'Arby D'Angelo Hootie and the Blowfish Erykah Badu (still around, but seems to have been replaced by Jill Scott) Musiq Culture Club you look better on your facebook page than you do in person  | |

My answer to this would be... when Nancy Wilson was droppin vinyl by the year, her records were about 30 minutes long.
Most new albums are like double-albums in length by old school expectations. | |

Most new albums are like double-albums in length by old school expectations. musicology was only 45 minutes, give or take...and that doesn't take away from the fact that Nancy still can put out a decent album...most cd's are in 47-55 minute range, very few artists use the whole 79:57 you can squeeze on cd...so even if you did use up the whole cd, that's only like 14-16 songs, how can you be burned out on 42-48 songs? you look better on your facebook page than you do in person | |

i loved culture club...kissing to be clever was a great album, and so was colour by numbers...but by disc 3, it was like WTF? a coupla good songs on their 3rd album, mistake #3, War Song, the rest was trash..and it was downhill after that you look better on your facebook page than you do in person | |

Terrence Trent D'Arby Introducing the Hardline was KILLER... Neither Fish Nor Flesh only had one good track... Symphony or Damn was a GREAT album! For me, that's his SOTT... Vibrator, again, GREAT album! Wildcard - once again, great album! You're not giving TTD enough credit my friend  Sometimes you gotta seek out the good shit. TTD hasn't been promoted (at least not in the US) since the first album but he's consistently put out good material (minus the second release IMO).
And wasn't Badu rushed into her 3rd album/ep by her record company?  Give her time, she ain't done... I have hope for Maxwell too

It wasn't up to par with the earlier stuff. From Luxury to Heartache was actually a GOOD album (though not aged well) but his druggie ways destroyed them.
He did go on to make quite a few more that were fantastic. And their last album was really good from what I heard. Christian Zombie Vampires | |
