Frank Zappa-Black Napkins, All of "Hot Rats", Watermelon in Easter Hay

Eddie Hazel-Maggot Brain

Paul McCartney, John Lennon, George Harrison-The End, (one of my favorite guitar tradeoffs in any song ever)

Mick Taylor-Can't You Hear Me Knockin'

Keith Richards-Gimme Shelter (I think that's Keith confuse)

Freddie, Sly Stone-Sex Machine (yes I like it, sue me)

Dez Dickerson-Little Red Corvette

Buckethead-All of Transmutation by Praxis (look here for some awesome bass by bootsy collins too)

Some good ones already listed!

A gat solo I love which is a bit less obvious is the jazzy one on Stevie Wonder's "Superwoman" it's on the "Where were you when I needed you" section of the song. It's not drawn out and spectacular but it just comes in brilliantly anybody else know what I'm talkin bout?!!

I'm not sure who plays it?

Peace!

I was reading an article this week about the making of Let It Bleed. One of the producer/engineer types (I forget which) says he remembers Mick Taylor and Keith Richards' "dualling twin guitar" on this intro, so maybe it was both of them.

Either way, it has to be my favourite song intro of all time. Haunting stuff!

I'm pretty sure that's the once baby-faced Buzzy Feiten on guitar.

Yeah Hendrix is the man. I think he's the greatest but Prince could be close if he concentrated more on his guitar riffs;THERE ISN'T ENOUGH OF THEM.

VisionEnt2004 hit on a couple of my faves and I won't dare to rank the greats as I have yet to hear them all. Here are some of my faves:

Hendrix -- Machine Gun, Eazy Rider, Purple Haze, Voodoo Chile (Slight Return)

Ray Parker Jr. -- Maybe Your Baby

Nirvana -- Breed

Wes Montgomery -- Once I Loved A.K.A. Favela

Eddie Van Halen -- Billie Jean

Shuggie Otis -- Inspiration Information

Andy Summer -- Omegaman

Isaac Hayes -- Cafe Regios (Is that him?)

Prince -- to name a few, Why Ya Wanna Treat Me So Bad, Let's Go Crazy, America (Live), ICNTTPOYM (to me his finest moment ever), Scandalous Sex Suite -- Pt. III, I Like It There, endorphinmachine, Purple Rain (Live Atlanta 1993), Rockhard In A Funky Place, While My Guitar Gently Weeps (arguably the best guitar solo he's done and among the best I've heard from anyone.)

Wendy Melvoin -- Hello 12" (izzat her or P? it's thug nasty!)
Good night, sweet Prince | 7 June 1958 - 21 April 2016

Props will be withheld until the showing and proving has commenced. -- Aaron McGruder

Yeah that's Buzzy, stevie sho' nuff knows how to pick a guitar soloist. with all this debate/speculation among people (me basically) as to whether or not stevie's played guitar or bass on record, I guess the best answer is that he knows he couldn't play it as well as a jeff beck or buzzy or michael sembello, so he usually doesn't.

That's the whole point.
Not letting one's ego to list a slew of "played" instruments get in the way of hiring the best player for the job.

This is why this infatuation with "multi-instrumentalists" in some threads is so baffling to me.

It's one thing to be able to plunk out a few notes on a instrument well enough to record a part.
It's a totally different ballgame to be able to play an instrument well enough to do an entire live gig.
That's the benchmark for me as to whether one can competently claim that instrument in their "multi-instrument" arsenal.

very very true, all of it. But stevie's my man, and it would be nice if there was some ostensible proof (apart from the damn stevie ray vaughan MTV special), that he CAN play guitar, even if he isn't a super cherry sundae virtuoso.
