Does anyone else here like Spring Haze? Great song. And it was a definite highlight of her show in Detroit. It sounded so wonderful with just her. You should look for it. I wish I couldve been there.

here's a review of the chicago show from the chicago tribune:
By Joshua Klein Special to the Tribune Tori Amos hasn't had a lot of hits, at least on the radio. But the iconoclastic singer-songwriter has written her share of catchy material, such as "Silent All These Years," "Cornflake Girl" or even the more recent "A Sorta Fairytale." While hardly ubiquitous, these would strike the average pop music listener as somewhat familiar -- and Amos didn't play any of them Friday night to her rapturous fans at a sold-out Auditorium Theatre performance. It took guts for Amos to ignore her most accessible material, playing a two-hour, sharply executed set aimed squarely at the cult faithful with hardly any effort to bring casual followers into the fold. Given Amos' idiosyncratic career and her unwillingness to compromise one iota for commercial gain, her concert wasn't surprising. Playing solo on a grand piano, a pair of organs, an electric piano and often combinations of two of them, Amos demonstrated the consistent depth of weirdness and complexity in her songs, often self-consciously strange and florid where a straight-forward melody would probably have sufficed. But Amos rarely plays things that easy. Most solo performances are marked by a certain simplicity. Amos, on the other hand, by tackling the tricky art-rock arrangements of songs such as "Barons of Suburbia" (from her latest album, "The Beekeeper") or "Space Dog" single-handedly, made them even stranger, and she didn't shy away from epic compositions such as "Yes, Anastasia," either. Amos still straddles her bench suggestively as a display of primal erotic empowerment, but there's a lot of thought in the image she projects. Consider, for example, the enthusiastically received choice to offer "Apollo's Frock," from an obscure EP, or "Cool On Your Island," a seldom-played track from her disowned 1988 debut "Y Kant Tori Read," a strategic sop for the real fanatics, a number of whom seemed to be in attendance. Despite her predilection for offbeat imagery and unconventional arrangements, a pair of telling covers -- Jim Croce's "Operator (That's Not the Way it Feels)" and Joni Mitchell's "The Circle Game" (which made Amos mist up) -- underlined that Amos' unconventional sound still is rooted in conventional songwriting, just gussied up with a virtuoso vigor and a mischievous instinct to mix things up.

when did you notice tori get choked up? i noticed it during the circle game...marianne was definitely in the building... Definitely during "The Circle Game". I was just responding to the Tribune article cuz they seemed to notice it too. It's definitely gonna be a long wait for that summer tour. I hope she does more cities next time. If I had the time and money, I'd just drop everything and follow her around. I've never done that before, but I'm feeling her enough right now to really consider it.

[Edited 4/19/05 13:58pm] Just ABSOLUTELY Stunning Sassy!!!!! At least you weren't crying your eyes out like I was when she said "oh, here someone let's take a picture". I think my mouth was open and the tears were splotched all over my face. Not even sure I want to see the part with me in it, You look like you were having the time of your life! Doesn't her jacket remind you of the Beekeeper cover? You are one lucky boy!!!!!

The picture with you is so special. I'm so glad it turned out. It captures the spirit of both of you perfectly. What a cool, happy, unplanned thing, huh? I feel like the meet and greet was worth it for this photo alone. I wish there was a way to save it aside from just printing it out. It's going on my wall ASAP, you can be sure of that. Thank you again for coming with me.

there is no comparing photos here! tori is the bomb and we are all lucky to have met her but, you know what, she's just as lucky to have met us! i think she feels the same way...she's probably the only artist i know of who goes out of their way to meet the fans and talk to them. she spends time getting to know them and, as i've witnessed first hand, she mentions some of them by name which suggests she values her time with them. tori is the rarest of the rare...she understands the importance of her fan base and she treats them as if they were her equals (which we are) and not as though she's doing them a favour by giving them some of her precious time.
God, i love this woman! | |

here's tori's set from last night's show in denver. it is the shortest of the tour so far with only 1 song for each encore. i wonder why tori cut it short...

Your Cloud I Ran (A Flock Of Seagulls cover) Cool! Suzanne (Leonard Cohen cover) Cooler! I imagine she cut it short due to time limitations. In her book she mentions that if there's a problem before a show that's going to limit her performance time, she never cancels but will sometimes take the penalty (fine). She's generous to a fault! So I imagine, things weren't running entirely smoothly last night. But I notice that she still did 17 songs and she's been averaging about 18 or so per night, so not bad. It just probably seemed a lot shorter to the fans in Denver, cuz Lord knows how we savor our encores.

I'm very shy and private Gooey and wouldn't post a picture but I'll org note you the link. It was the most amazing thing ~ I'm five feet tall and was standing behind a bunch of people so don't know how she even spotted me. She looked over at me and said "here, let's sort this one out". The people in front of me were nice enough to move and I got to the front. After seeing the DVD on Beekeeper, the songs became more personal than ever and I was crying like a 12 year old. We spoke for a brief minute. One thing I said to her was "thank you for sharing a part of your Soul". She very warmly said 'thank you for accepting it". She then said "here let's get a picture". A photographer there handed Nathan his camera and Nathan took two pictures. It was over in a heartbeat but I'll never forget it. She was so warm and flawlessly beautiful (she smelled great too)!!!! If you EVER have the chance ~ get your sweet self to a meet n greet ~ she'll love you!!!!

Gooey and Isten - if you have the desire and the time, you really should try to get to the meet & greet. I don't know if it'll be the same in Europe, but she's been coming out to chat with fans around 3 to 4 pm in nearly every city. If you haven't met her before, it's well worth it. It's not so much a starstruck schmoozefest like it might be with other artists. It feels like a legitimate exchange and like she truly wants to be doing it. I'll never forget the first time I saw her live. I was relatively new to her music in '94 and had never met a celebrity before. My friends wanted to wait after for her. There were probably over 200 people waiting, but somehow we ended up near the front. I simply thanked her for playing my favorite song of hers at the time "Tear In Your Hand" and also "Purple Rain" and she just said "Oh sweetie, it was my pleasure!" Then she reached out, hugged me and kissed me. So I kissed her back and I remember she tasted like buttered popcorn. I was blown away. The thing is, at the time her music was SO edgy and almost frightening at times. And the thing that struck me about her was just how nurturing and open and friendly she was in person. Love that girl.

LoL Isten! Better bring our camping gear! Geez, what's the matter with me? Looking back at my last few posts, I can't quote to save my life. But anyway, yeah. She's been doing them before the shows. I guess having a family changes your schedule a bit. From reading her book, it's obvious that she has a really healthy outlook on how to handle a career and a family. It seems to come naturally to her.
