You should seek them out. Clear some of the Betty Boo and Sinitta maxis off your shelves and make room for more Lisa. And what new jack influence - do you mean the use of the drum machine? Betty boo was uk only I thought aswell? I was living in US around her breif fame but I know "doing the do". Sinitta? She did they really gay "macho" song didn't she? She was also going out with simon Cowell. lisa was by no means a newjack artist. But I can hear slight flavourings if u will.

Ain't that a bip - Prince himself did this It's funny you mentioned Prince. He's one of the few artists whose work from this period doesn't sound the least bit dated to me.That's because he pretty much ignored current trends and did his own thing. He brought horns into his music at a time when everyone else was getting rid of them. That's why an album like 'SOTT' still sounds fresh and invigorating, without all the "cluttered production" that many other artists were using.

I liked: Pet Shop Boys Ace of Base Deee-Lite Erasure Paula Abdul Janet Jackson Michael Jackson Madonna George Michael Prince Bananarama Neneh Cherry Jesus Jones Seal Soul II Soul Lisa Stansfield .... I concur...You can add Samantha Fox, Cathy Dennis and a few others from pop back then. It wasn't a bad era. In fact, the early ninties was great for dance pop, as your list suggested.

I could deal with some of the pop/rock during this time period.
As far as mainstream R&B during that time, I hated most of it. It was getting too damn slow and ballads were completely taking over. There were a few jams I loved at time though such as: Earth To Mickey - Chaka Khan Thrill Seekers - Roger Rocket 2 U - The Jets Pump Up The Volume - MARRS Snake In The Grass - Midnight Star You Make Me Work - Cameo The Right Stuff - Vanessa Williams Jump Start - Natalie Cole Relationship - Lakeside Run To Me - Angela Winbush Anything by Jesse Johnson Anything by Morris Day Most of the Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis productions Anything by Trinere Anything by Madame X Anything by Jody Watley Most of my favorites have been hardcore male funk groups and there were very few of these left over during that time. Prince was also still around but his stuff was not NEAR as strong as before. During this time, Prince's protegees' stuff was much stronger than Prince's. It still beat the hell out of weak balladeers that were dominating though. Also, I was getting into the fast rap at the time such as: The Egyptian Lover BOSE Freestyle Afro Rican 2 Live Crew Run DMC Gigolo Tony Sir Mix-A-Lot J.J. Fad Etc. At the same time, I hated the midtempo rap that was starting to surface. In the mid to late 1980s, I first discovered house music. When the 1990s arrived, other than Prince and one or two others, house music was the ONLY music I listened to. I couldn't stand anything else because it was too slow, dead, and boring. Before 1985, I basically loved almost everything on the radio. [Edited 4/4/05 22:43pm] Andy is a four letter word.

I love 2 live crew and sir mix a lot. Remember Kid sensation?
nah mainstream rnb was newjack. Newjack was anything but midtempo. If anything, and I have said this before, newjack gave watered down adult contempoorary rnb like lional ritchie and billy ocean a fresh kick up the ass. Jam and Lewis, Babyface and LA reid (remember the deele? I loved them) and of course Teddy Riley bascially gave rnb a new flavour. Particually Teddy Riley. I would of loved to of been in clubs when Keith Sweats "i want her" (which is midtempo) dropped.
