She did a cover of that song? Wow! I can't freakin wait to hear it biggrin

nod It's the B-side from Spark. Her version is so good, not to take anything away from Steely Dan, but it's just more emotionally powerful and a little bit darker than the original version. If you like Liquid Diamonds/She's Your Cocaine, then you'll probably like Do It Again. It has that same feel. smile

I love her version. I don't know the original but usually I don't mind not knowing.

I always think of it as the twin to "Liquid Diamonds" too.

I'm cracking up that you don't know the original. I guarantee you'd know it if you heard it nod Classic song.

I'm sure Tori's is completely unrecognizable compared to the original. But I didn't even know who it was by. Ignorance is bliss!

yeah it is. The lyrics are the only recognizable part of the song to be honest.

That's like when I heard Slayer's "Raining Blood" after hearing Tori's remake first. I was scratching my head trying to hear any connection between the two at all. There isn't any. I remain unconvinced that there is any similarity beyond the titles.

she does have the ability to make a cover completely her own. If that's the case, you know she should just write new lyrics for them, to save her the royalties troubles.

Hmmm...you said any kind, any genre. It's not new by any means, but one of my favorites:

Dark, dark material, and I love Johnette's voice. The tune Joey was played out, but the rest of the album is killer. Lots of anti-love songs, many of them equating love to a blood-thirsty monster. smile

eek omg omfg

I can't even begin to tell you how much this album threw my ass for a loop! First of all, I thought this was Four Non Blondes! You know....

"25 years and my life is still
trying to get up that great big hill of hope, for a destination.
And I say Hey ey ey yeah
Hey ey yey, I say hey, what's going on....

Brilliant! worship

On top of thinking this was another band, I expected a very sappy kinda meloncholy sad slow type of music and this album is not full of slow sappy sad songs. I felt an immediate kinship with this album. I have another outlet for when love turns the sky into a poisonous garden. :brooding:

Lestening to this album I felt like a vampire introduced into the world of satisfaction through bloodletting. I've certainly had my share of relationship tragedy and I connect with this kind of music, it's why I love PJ Harvey so much. She brings her grief to a whole different level and that is what this album did. It brought the pain and tragedy to the surface and made it alright to live it.....

Thanks Ripher! Excellent suggestion hug

woot! Yay! Glad you enjoyed it so much. I can still almost get the same feeling I first got when I listened to this album my senior year in high school (1991). When I said it was dark, I wasn't kidding. lol

The prey of the beast screamed
bloody murder
The line is so fine between
hoping and hurting
Former believers they beg for release
As love looking down on them
smiles and picks his teeth
Trapped in between heaven and hell
he knows all the secrets
and don't want to tell
There's nowhere to run and there's
nowhere to hide
Love knows you all too well
He will find you

Love is the ghost haunting your head
Love is the killer you thought
was your friend
Love is the creature who lives
in the dark
Sneaks up, will stick you
and painfully pick you apart

Love is a poet, love sings the songs
Pointing his finger you follow along
Voice are calling,
the monster wants out of you
paws you and claws you, you try not to fall

Love is the leech, sucking you up
Love is a vampire, drunk on your blood
Love is the beast that will
tear out your heart
Hungrily lick it and
painfully pick it apart

Love is a ghost, haunting your head
Love is the killer you thought
was your friend
Love is the teacher who lives in the dark
Sneak up and stick you
and painfully pick you apart
