J-Lo's 'Rebirth' a massive flop From Fox "news"
Jennifer Lopez 's music career is in big trouble. Her latest album, "Rebirth," is sinking like it's in quicksand on the charts. When this week's numbers are counted, J-Lo will have sold barely 400,000 copies after three weeks of release. Most of those were sold in the first week, too. This past week's sales, according to Hitsdailydouble.com and Nielsen SoundScan, will be around 40,000, if she's lucky. Sales of "Rebirth" are hindered by a couple of things. First of all, Lopez does not tour to promote her albums. This is a problem, whether it's due to logistical problems, economics or fear. There was some talk of Lopez touring this year, but her desultory appearance on the "Today" show may have persuaded her to rethink that plan. Second, Lopez does not have a true hit single from this album. Her last album contained "Jenny From the Block," but the new album has failed to catch on the radio. The Billboard Hot 100 Airplay chart lists Lopez's newest single, "Hold You Down," featuring the appropriately nicknamed Fat Joe, at No. 72. So far there hasn't been much of a clamor from disc jockeys to play it, and that's not a good sign. Great singles can turn around a whole career. Just ask pop newcomer Kelly Clarkson. She doesn't have Lopez's appeal as a movie star or celebrity, but she's outselling Lopez because of her terrific single, "Since U Been Gone." Blame for this debacle will probably rest on Lopez's husband, Marc Anthony . He's a great performer, but not one known as a hit-maker, even for his own career. Anthony, like Ben Affleck and P. Diddy before him, seems to have eased into the quasi-manager role for Lopez at her request. It was apparently his idea to stage that unpopular living room-set duet that the pair performed on the Grammys. | |

But it is very vintage Jennifer Lopez..." I assume by "live music" she means repetitive and annoying samples of live music performed by others and by "vintage Jennifer Lopez" she means a hot mess of tea-bagging goodness. but, then again, like j.lo says in the interview about her music, "When I get into a flow, into a vibe, I'm unstoppable." | |

"Get Right" hit 12...that isn't too bad considering everyone hates her and dance pop goes nowhere now of days. This is very atypical of Fox. I like the non-opinions too. Granted, the album isn't doing as well as her last ones but its shit like this that really doesn't help and they know it. They are so scummy. Kelly Clarkson better keep playing it safe so they don't call her next single "terrible" instead of terrific! Oh, Fox....what are we going to do with you? Love her or loathe her, uber-diva Jennifer Lopez knows how to deliver on record. She understands how to make the most of her limited vocal range, choosing to surround herself with able producers Rodney Jerkins, Timbaland, Big Boi and Cory Rooney, who oversaw Lopez's first album, On the 6. The mix makes Rebirth far more enjoyable than it should be, coasting on midnight-groove ballads and polished dance tracks. Lopez's fourth studio album offers little insight into her much-gossiped-about persona, but it's an undeniably fun ride anyway. A blaring James Brown horn riff drills first single "Get Right" into your head almost immediately, and soon enough, you'll find yourself bopping to the beat. The Middle-Eastern flavor of "Step Into My World" is undeniably seductive, and it's actually enhanced by Lopez's wisp of a voice. "Whatever You Wanna Do" and "Cherry Pie" are solid dance tracks, the kind of grooves Janet Jackson made before she became a Superbowl afterthought. Elsewhere, the album is peppered with R&B ballads, much like Lopez's 2002 opus, This Is Me ... Then. Rebirth is hardly a groundbreaking affair, but it continues to showcase Lopez's skillful trend of producing solid, catchy, R&B-laced records. Nothing here ever sounds forced or canned, and in the world of MTV and radio edits, maybe that does make Lopez a bit of a revolutionary after all.

My favourite tracks are: "Step Into My World" , "I,Love", "Cherry Pie", and "Get Right"  I highky recommend at least giving it a full listen.  1/2

this interview is hilarious.I guess J-Lo doesn't read the credits on her own album.If she did,she would know that those "live horns and live drums" are actually samples from Old School R&B songs.Can't see why she is so enthusiastic about this new CD.She basically makes the same album over and over. | |
