Joe Jackson vs. Elvis Costello Who do you like better? I like Elvis, but when Joe hits it, he really hits it.

i love them both, but if i had to chose, i'd definitely pick elvis costello. i would base that on several things. one his consistancy. he has consistantly released really strong material. his latest cd the delivery man is excellent. i don't think joe jackson's later material is nearly as strong as elvis's. i'd choose elvis for his diversity. he has released rock albums in a variety of veins, he has toured with the mingus big band, done country music records, he has released string quartet and full orchestra classical music.
i will be seeing elvis here in portland, oregon next friday night. can't wait! ------------------------------------------------

Elvis Costello. Elvis has made at least eight superb albums in his time. Joe Jackson's made none, although somne of his songs are ok. There are three sides to every story. My side, your side, and the truth. And no one is lying. Memories shared serve each one differently

Shapeshifter said: +++++ i think, joe jackson's "i'm the man", "look sharp", and "night and day" are all classic records. but i would still pick elvis. and in terms of elvis live, one of the things i admire elvis for is how he has continued to work on his craft. i have seen him about 15 times, dating back to 1981. he is so much better live now, than he was earlier in his career. +=+=+ [Edited 4/3/05 9:07am] ------------------------------------------------

These are two of my favorites.
I saw Elvis Costello live for the first time about three weeks ago. He was fantastic, and his band was incredible as well. His current music is just as vital as his earlier stuff. He could make a great album in any style he chooses. Joe Jackson, while similar musically, is kind of a poor man's Elvis Costello. Don't get me wrong, I love him- I think Look Sharp, I'm the Man, Night and Day, Blaze of Glory, and even Volume 4 are great albums. But his 90s output was quite weak, especially compared to Elvis'. And his classical music attempts then just couldn't hold on to my attention.

Oh, and I forgot to mention that I'm seeing Joe Jackson live for the first time in two weeks along with Todd Rundgren.
