I respect your opinion, but I disagree. This album would have sold like hotcakes because people have been waiting for another Fiona record for YEARS now. And it IS a great record...most people who have heard it seem to think so. Tracks were played on a radio station in the US recently and even those who are not Fiona fans phoned in and said they liked it. And there were still others who did not necessarily like the music but thanked the station for playing something different to the norm. The music world needs more records like this right now...Fiona seems to be saying that herself in the final song, "Please, Please, Please". This album is BOLD, multi-layered and ORIGINAL and some people just don't appreciate the hard work and talent it takes to achieve that.

How well did When the Pawn sell? I don't recall it selling like hotcakes, but perhaps I am wrong. And that was 6 years ago. Fiona fans may believe that the masses have been clamoring for a new Fiona album, but I don't think that is the case, and I don't think the new record would have sold well had it been released in its normal course. I could be wrong smile

"Fast As You Can" off the last album was a top 40 hit and the album sold relatively well in general. It doesn't really matter about how well it sells anyway....that has nothing to do with the quality of an album. I listened to the new one last night on phones and it IS a quality album (everyone's been saying these files are CD quality though, but they're not....they may be encoded at 192kbps, but they still have that slight mp3 warble if you listen closely....this album would sound LUSH on a real CD though).

I never said "the masses" would be clamouring, anyway. I rate Fiona as having the pulling power of artists like Beck, Tori Amos, et al...you know, ALTERNATIVE artists that sell well within their field.

She read my mind when she wrote "Please, Please, Please". That track really like a message to Sony.

In which country was "Fast As You Can" a hit? Not here in the U.S. I remember the video getting played a few times on MTV, but the single didn't go anywhere at radio. At least that's what Billboard says. I think if Fiona's album would have been released normally, it would have sold well the first week as all the Fiona fans would have rushed out to buy it, and then sales would have dropped off significantly because there's no hit single to pull in new fans.

There's some great songs on that recording. I dig "Not About Love," the title track, "Better Version of Me" (great driving back rhythm) and "Used To Love Him."

If you haven't checked it out, you should.
