I just came across this local artist and I SWEAR she is trying real hard to be Tori. http://www.mabarnes.com/keri/ I immediately thought of Boys For Pele from the first few seconds... The way she sings is sooooo trying to be Tori. This is a bad thing, imo. Don't be such a copycat, that's bad, mmmmkay? I mean, she's talented and all... She can play and sing well... It just sounds sooooo similar. She's got Tori's style from 96 down pat.

Or does she sound like Kate Bush? I can't tell.

I also once heard a local artist that was sooooo trying to be Dave Matthews. The guy had the exact same tone and inflections in his voice! He opened for a friend of mine, so I had to sit through his agonizing set. Then he says "I'm gonna do a cover" and didn't say what it was going to be. Let me guess... a Dave Matthews song? It sure sounded like it, but it turned out to be Love Song by The Cure. Imagine Dave Matthews covering that song.

sadly, i did. i'm all for new artists being influenced and even learning from those that came before them. all of my favorites have clearly taken clues from earlier acts: prince and marvin gaye (among many others), tori and kate bush (among many others), u2 and the beatles (among many others), madonna and everybody outside of america. but this girl hasn't added anything to tori's style. after listening to 3 of her songs, i don't know what keri highland sounds like...i just know she listens to tori amos a lot.

One was for Cloudbusting (sorry Cloudy ) and the other I believe was from The Sensual World, there was a black background and I believe a band. Maybe she'll just take some work, but all the endless comparisons to Tori has me defensively taking sides.
