Buddy Guy is Awesome. He rocked it on the RRHOF with Eric Clapton and BB King tonight.  Why'd it take so long to induct him. At least legends inducted him, hehe unlike the O'Jays.[Edited 3/19/05 21:06pm] | |

He is a MONSTER blues player who has just NOT got the respect and rewards he desrves for his talents. He is the direct link between the smooth blues of BB King and TBone Walker, The barnstorming, rough and ready blues of Muddy Waters and Howling Wolf and the virtuso, extended soloing, frenzy of J Hendrix,E Clapton,SRV etc. | |

[Edited 3/19/05 21:06pm] I just got through watching it. Buddy's bad to the bone. I love his stuff. Im learning Midnight Train off of his Heavy Love album. What was Timberlake doing inducting the O'Jays???? They couldnt get anyone a little more legendary? Many Christmas' ago, I went to buy a doll for my son. I reached for the last one they had, but so did another man. As I rained blows upon him, I realized there had to be another way. | |

('68) over LIVE: THE REAL DEAL ('96), would be the time frame of the recordings. Instead of Buddy's attempt at "...recapturing the long-lost Chess sound." and the fact that he "...revists his roots..." on LIVE, on This Is Buddy Guy! he doesn't have to recapture or revist anything as this is a recording done in '68 on the Vanguard label directly following his break from Chess. I prefer the raw A.C. Reed led horns over the slicker SNL section along with Otis Spann (albeit hard to hear) on keys over Johnny Johnson (although a great player). Couple that with the fact that he's using, IMO, his new found f'd-up "rock star" guitar sound on LIVE as opposed to the more manic sounding biting tones on This Is Buddy Guy! (just a personal preference on my part). His singing is much better on the earlier recording. And I'm Not The Best is a classic James Brown rave up. Finally, I Got My Eyes On You, LIVE: THE REAL DEAL vs This Is Buddy Guy!? You know my choice, for all the reasons stated above. 
I do agree with you on his version of Fever.

I know. I couldn't go though.  I think my uncle had planned to go, but I haven't talked with him in a while, so I don't know if he went or not. Buddy Guy and KoKo Taylor are gonna be at some festival in South Carolina next month, but I don't know exactly how far away that is from Savannah or the ticket price. I'll have to look more into that one. | |

I liked the RRHOF preformance a lot.
There is great footage of a fairly young Buddy in last year's Festival Express. One of the film's better perfomances, actually.
