Will someone please explain to my why Nadia from American Idol is getting so much praise? I have heard many many many people saying this chick is a great singer. Some even saying she is the best in the competition!? WTF? She may have been more consistent than Makaylah, but no way did she have a better singing voice than her. Makaylah sang beautifully when she did "God Bless the Child", Nadia has not had one of those moments. And to those who say she is the best female singer....no WAY is she a better singer than Vonzell or Carrie Underwood. Not on any planet in the solar system. Are you a fan of this chick? Sure, part of the music industry is about image and she's got that down pat, but people are confusing the "it" factor with talent because as much as I hear people fawning over this chick, she aint got what it takes to win this contest. At least not based on talent. 2010: Healing the Wounds of the Past.... http://prince.org/msg/8/325740

She's the black girl with the big afro hair. She had the giant mohawk and sang Cindy Lauper's "Time after Time". 2010: Healing the Wounds of the Past.... http://prince.org/msg/8/325740

She's got some style, she's cute, and she chooses unexpected material. Sometimes (like when she did Time After Time) it sucks.
She's definitely not the best singer, but most pop idols have as much personality (if not more) as they have vocal chops. I definitely am swayed by style. None of these singers is Whitney, so they've got to make up for it somehow. Vonzell's a better straight singer, but she's forgettable. [Edited 3/31/05 11:14am] Check this song out at:

I haven't sat through an entire episode this season, so I can't really say. I love her voice, her energy and her look. But I can't make a fair comparison of her voice with the others in the competition. The Normal Whores Club

I don't think she's outstanding, but she's definitely a good singer. And she's surely better than Mikalah. You liked her?

I loved Makaylah. I said before, Makaylah was not consistent, whereas Nadia has been. However, you tell me when did Nadia come even close to singing as beautifully as Makaylah when she sand "God Bless the Child"? Hate Makaylah if you must, but you cannot say she didn't do that song incredible justice. Nadia is flat and boring and she is skating by on her cutsie wootsy personality and it's pissing me off. She does not belong in this contest. Many other deserving women got jacked because of her. . [Edited 3/31/05 11:17am] 2010: Healing the Wounds of the Past.... http://prince.org/msg/8/325740

I really liked her early on but she got sorta dull after a while. Granted, I didn't hear it all but her version of Love Will Lead You Back was terrible. I think what really annoyed and confused people is why a 17-year-old Catholic girl from Vegas did a middle-aged, Long Island Jew impersonation week after week. It was tired and bordered on offensive. Maybe offensive is a strong word, but that - and much of her act - just came off as affected (to use Paula and Randy's favorite word).

But all the affectedness was gone when she sang "God Bless the Child". To me, she was having fun, she was a fun personality and I liked that in her. Was she consistent, no but she did have talent and she did at least that one time pull out all the stops and show what she was truly made of. Nadia is a fraud and does not deserve to be in this show. 2010: Healing the Wounds of the Past.... http://prince.org/msg/8/325740

Nadia is a breath of fresh air, seeing as the music industry has already decided what black women will look like and sound like for the record buying public. As far as her singing, I'd rather hear her than Ashanti or Ciara. Makaylah was overconfident to the point of sounding cliched, hitting all the typical riffs. Furthermore, she sounded like Fran Drescher when she SANG, not when she spoke. I mean, how do you twist vowels like that?...

But how bout that version of Somewhere? It does take some balls to do Barbra Streisand, but it absolutely sucked. Even Time After Time wasn't that bad.
Mikaela just wasn't consistent. She is very young, isn't she? Check this song out at:

Mikaela just wasn't consistent. She is very young, isn't she? Yes, she's 17. And unfortunately for her, regular viewers a better version of Somewhere in mind - LaToya London's version last year was awesome!

There were many more talented girls in the 48, and in the 24. Jenae was a better singer than Nadia. Nadia is skating by and the longer she's in this game the madder I get. She has got to go! 2010: Healing the Wounds of the Past.... http://prince.org/msg/8/325740

Nadia is okay, but i think they were expecting her to sing more r&b type songs rather than rock/pop songs. Maybe thats the problem.... I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.

Nadia is this year's equivalent of the Hawaiian chick from last season. The Hawaiian chick last year beat Jennifer Hudson and Latoya London to the top 3. Nadia better not get anywhere near top 3 because she does not deserve to be there. She may be a nice girl and all but this is a singing competition and she is a weak singer. Certainly not the best in this contest like I've heard people say. And what is up with Simon giving her compliments and then cutting Federov? That boy has a waaaayyyy better singing voice than Nadia and she gets the compliments? They are just tying to sell her style.... 2010: Healing the Wounds of the Past.... http://prince.org/msg/8/325740

Myself and a friend have had this competition since the series started.
We do personal picks (male and female) and then an "UM" (explanation later) pick when the herd has been thinned to the final 24. This year I picked Anwar and Nadia as personal picks. He selected Bo and Nadia. (Last year I picked Fantasia and he picked Diana to win it all) The UM (Unwashed Masses) pick is based on who we think the public will possibly select for no good reason (cuteness, hairstyle, anything but musical ability). My pick is Carrie and his is Anthony. Haven't been watching the show so I really don't know what's been happening. But it looks like my picks (Anwar & Nadia) are still in the running. Btw, we both go into this knowing that the show is not about finding and promoting any seriously talented indiviuals. tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...rmusic.htm "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn. You're right, they're selling her style. It is a singing competition, but it's called American Idol for a reason. They want someone with personality, and that Federov guy gas none. Even Clay had better personality and more charisma. Check this song out at:

A good singing voice isn't necessarily an interesting one. Do you only buy albums by technically perfect singers? Federov is boring, plain and simple. No style, tired song choices. He provides the type of fare suitable for entertainment on a cruise ship. The other guy with glasses is his antithesis. It just doesn't seem like he's in it to win it. Personally I'm disappointed, because I think he's hot.

Yes, cuz if that were true, Jennifer Hudson would be on Broadway in a dream-come-true revival of Dreamgirls and have the #1 album in the country.

Ok....I absolutely agree about the good singing voice is not necessarily an interesting one comment because Celine Dion is about as perfect as you get and I'd be having as much fun laying in a casket than I do listening to one of her albums. But Vonzell is every bit as cute and stylish and all that and she has an awesome voice and I haven't heard one person give her props and there is no way that Nadia is more talented than Vonzell.
