trashoblanco said: I can't comment on the exotica-looking albums, but the other picks are winners. And speaking of the Stooges - has any ever noticed that Smoke in the Water's riff is almostly identical to the riff from Loose? Someone in Deep Purple (Ritchie Blackmore, Roger Glover - shit, it could have been Ian Paice for all I know...) must have been listening to Funhouse at some point. Just saying... what kind of ride are you looking for? try something by elliott smith like either/or or XO or figure 8. aimee mann's "i'm with stupid" is also really good and, of course, anything by tori amos, especially the early stuff. (that's my kind way of saying i didn't like the last two albums) to venus and back is really good. I think this was already mentioned but Radiohead's OK Computer and Hail to the Thief. On a completely different note, Stevie Wonder's-Song's in the Key of Life and Hotter than July will make you wish it was the 70's. Rufus and Chaka Kahn, Maxwell's first album (it's the only one I have so it's the only one I can reccommend.) the Oh Brother Where Art Thou soundtrack will introduce you to country that doesn't make you want to take a steak knife to someone. the Dixie Chicks Fly is also good for that. Patsy Cline has an amazing voice and this almost R&B ballad like feel to her. And Loretta Lynn has a song called "don't come home a drinken w/ a loven on your mind." you've gotta love a woman who'll write a song like that.

Im deep quote- song lyric about my ex cause that bitch stole my mp3 player! - line from movie I liked - Prince lyric - not very clever sig mocking other sigs

the clash is good for 80's punk. so is the violent femmes. if you do get one of their albums, just get add it up. they have this acoustic punk thing going. ani difranco is an amazing story teller, but any album after little plastic castles may not be worth owning. There's also T-Rex for some Glam Rock. Cosmic Dancer is a good ablum for that. also joy division and new order have a punkish feel to them. they do sort of dance/punk (if there is such a thing.) Joni Mitchell, of course, is amazing. Blue and Turbulent Indigo are good starters. that's all i can think of right now.

SupaFunkyOrgangrinderSexy said: So....I haven't been shopping for music in months. I went to Tower Records this weekend excitedly because I had some extra scratch and I found absolutely nothing interesting or worthwhile. I did check through the clearance rack and found a killer Acid Jazz Compilation but the house compilation I bought sucked ass. I really didn't hear anything all that great in any of the listening stations.
I'm so bored with what's out there and need to be inspired. Recommend me an album that will grab me by the balls and not let go until it's done with me. It doesn't matter the genre, just as long as I'm guaranteed a ride. Natalie Nicole's Debut album "Eclectic Soul" Listen and Purchase at http://www.indy-soul.com and http://www.cdbaby.com/natalienicole yes, this is a shameless plug you can also peep four FULL LENGTH tracks from the album at http://www.myspace.com/natalienicole The artist formerly known as Natalie Nicole

I'll recommend this one again:
Nellie Mckay. She's unclassifiable. I'll be seeing her live in NY tomorrow.
