I hope so. It is the best hip-hop album of the last decade. It leaves more widely celebrated hip-hop albums like Speakerboxxx/The Love Below and College Dropout standing still. It is a wild mix of hardcore East Coast hip-hop, jazz, acid et al. It is produced by the incomparable Madlib. But seriously, check out Giant Steps if you don't have it already. Jazz is cheap, and if you want a ride, 'Trane will move fast enough for ya! Good night, sweet Prince | 7 June 1958 - 21 April 2016

Speaking of which, Alice Coltrane's "Transcendence" is one of the most amazing albums I've ever heard - I really have to be lying down when I listen to this album, because it literally DOES take my ass on a trip. Her album is, in my opinion, quite literally enchanted. I've checked out her other pieces and I like them, but they don't mess with my consciousness the way "Transcendence" does.

Mercury Rev, "Deserter's Songs" and "All Is Dream" .... but especially "Deserter's Songs" "I don't need your forgiveness, cos I've been saved by Jesus, so fuck you."

OK....even though I'm a prostitute who has been rebuffed by the cross on several occassions, not sure if I'm really interested in buying a post punk album. Not a fan of the genre really but I'll see if I can find it used cuz I want to check out all recommendations 2010: Healing the Wounds of the Past.... http://prince.org/msg/8/325740

giant Steps, A Love Supreme, Blue Trane, many other coltrane albums will do it, duke ellington's latin american and far east suites take you exactly where they say they will, Charles Mingus' Black Saint and The Sinner Lady, soooo many Miles Davis albums it's not even funny, anything by the Jimi Hendrix Experience (especially Electric Ladyland). Listening to Sly Stone's Stand and There's A Riot Going On will take you to the peak of exuberant revelry and then down to the pit of addiction and resignation, All The beatles albums from Revolver to Abbey Road are richly satisfying journeys from one end of western pop music to the other, Stevie's Music of My Mind, Innervisions and Fulfillingness First Finaele are wonderous little excursions into Stevie's mind, Off The Wall transports to your own personal gliterry dancefloor, and of course Purple Rain, Around the World in a day, and Sign O' the Times are good in that regard too. But these are almost all the most obvious choices

SupaFunkyOrgangrinderSexy said: So....I haven't been shopping for music in months. I went to Tower Records this weekend excitedly because I had some extra scratch and I found absolutely nothing interesting or worthwhile. I did check through the clearance rack and found a killer Acid Jazz Compilation but the house compilation I bought sucked ass. I really didn't hear anything all that great in any of the listening stations.
I'm so bored with what's out there and need to be inspired. Recommend me an album that will grab me by the balls and not let go until it's done with me. It doesn't matter the genre, just as long as I'm guaranteed a ride. Now, when you say this, are you looking for something fast or can it be smooth too?

Jamiroqui - Traveling without Moving
http://notfornothing.net/...tails.html Anyone remember him? The album was sparked by the hit single, "Virtual Insanity." However, there are other gems like, Cosmic Girl, Alright, and High Times. Also early 90's gangsta rap: Dr Dre's - The Chronic and Snoop Dogg's - Doggystyle Whitney Houston's (side two) of her greatest hits features all club remixes. http://www.amazon.com/exe...1?v=glance

Having said that I would seriously recommend D'Angelo's "Voodoo" album. I've been listening to this record non stop for the past several months and it's just seeped into me. It's the first album in a little while that has had this kind of effect on me and if you really listen to it, I'm sure it will have the same effect on you. Either way, good luck! I've been in that same situation!

It's a very simple album full of hooks and such but it works so so well. I remember wondering why Prince wasn't tearin it up like that. Hmmm...you said any kind, any genre. It's not new by any means, but one of my favorites:
Dark, dark material, and I love Johnette's voice. The tune Joey was played out, but the rest of the album is killer. Lots of anti-love songs, many of them equating love to a blood-thirsty monster.
