Here's another guy that made excellent music in the 80's and 90's. Faith, Listen Without Prejudice Vol. 1, Older, etc...he also shares an admiration 2 Stevie Wonder and has covered "As" with Mary J. Blige, and "They Won't Go When I Go", and the lucky bastard got 2 actually duet with Stevie Wonder with "Love's In Need Of Love" on an old tv celebration of the reopening of the Apollo Theater in Harlem.

Here's a guy who wrote "Careless Whisper" when he was 16 years old!! Man...

I love it when someone who's been thrown in2 the news as a result of a SEXUAL situation (b it good or bad), slammed by the media, told his career was over...and still kicks ass! He made a campy video mocking his arrest, laughed it off and continued living his life, HIS way. Good 4 u George!

...just stay outta the public bathrooms, eh?

IMO,pound per pound, George is one of the greatest songwriters/lyricists ever. I know that is a bold statement to make, but the lyrical dexterity that he displays is enough for me to justify such a claim. He just doesn't have many recordings in his discography. If he did, he would be noted as such by more critics and music listeners alike. Great lyricst. His lyrics on "Older" were stunning. That album deserved a better reception here in the states(USA) than it got. Good lyricists like him are sorely missed into today's pop and R&B climate.

Good interview - except the part about the new cd being released in NOVEMBER!! I've ordered the cd singles - I think when they arrive I'll pack them away until the whole cd is going to be released. I don't like it when a single is released so far in advance - by the time the cd hits you are tired of the song. Like The Work coming out in June on Napster well in advance of TRC.

George sounds refreshingly honest & down-to-earth. I don't like his new single but nevertheless look forward to the new album.

actually, do you want some very interesting Prince and GM similarities?
GM and Prince both had very public feuds with their respecting record labels. (both around the same time)

Both GM and P released albums in 1996 that dealt with the freedom from record contracts. (older and emancipation)

Both did a cover of Bonnie's "I cant make u love me" in 1996.

GM is a big Prince fan. Prince respects GM and has commented on his feud with Sony in the past.

Both signed contracts in their teens and were given unprecedented artistic control. (both produce, compose and perform everything on their albums.)

so there...

Michael only co-produces everything on his latest album and composed none of it. It's also fair to say that he does not perform everything on his albums - but then, nor does Prince!

Incidentally - how can either Michael or Prince compose evrything on their albums (as you claim) when you also point out they have both covered songs performed (and written) by others!

Yeah - because it's an album (Songs of the last century) of covers smile
In fact, although he produced it (1999 release) he pleyd no instruments on the slbum - mostly orchestration.

BTW - I'm not knocking the man - he invariably produces, or co-produces, and writes nearly all the material on his albums, and plays many of the instruments - and I'm sure that's likely to be the case on the forthcoming album too.

George Michael Update:
Apparently, because he is upset at the relative lack of success of 'Freeek' and cause his dog died confused, his new album has been pushed back until the end of the year cause he is taking a break. There is no word on any American release.
In a recent interview, his good friend Elton John said that George does find it hard to be productive in the studio. I guess that is why we only get an album every 5 years from George! Elton also said that he didn't like the song 'Freeek'.

I thought Freeek was a keller song esp after the last album of cover songs...Now that was a weak album but one that he always wanted 2 do...If U didn't know he was gay be4 that album, an album of show tunes convinced U. George is a great writer who at times I think is filled with self doubt...As a vocalist, he is pretty much untouchable in my book...It is sad that Americans have really turned thier back on him...Listen Without Prejudice is a masterpiece and is am album that I feel was written about my life at that point in time...Freeek was damaged by the video I believe...It wasn't very viewer friendly in the old GM way...I wish the man would just tour again at the least...he's only number 2 in my book because Prince will always be number 1...
