Alice Russell and Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings... Has there already been a thread about Alice Russell? If not, WHY NOT?
http://www.tru-thoughts.c...tml&aid=30 Check out some tracks from her album here http://www.tru-thoughts.c...html&id=95 She has an AMAZINGLY SOULFUL voice that makes Joss Stone sound like a pathetically spineless hack. In fact there's no comparison other than the blonde hair. Russell IS soul. The single 'Hurry On Now', and the track, 'Somebody's Gonna Leave You' are standouts for me. It's not so much whatever "neo-soul" is supposed to be, but more original old school soul laid onto some modern beats. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED, if you're one for the voice of soul. And what about Sharon Jones? She has two albums.. Tracks here: http://www.daptonerecords...LP-CD.html Listen to her version of 'What Have You Done For Me Lately?' and Tracks here: http://www.daptonerecords...LP-CD.html Listen to the tracks, 'How Do I Let A Good Man Down', and 'This Land Is Your Land', then TELL ME you didn't go all scrunchy faced in the soulfunk. ...and as far as I'm concerned, she's the closest you're gonna get to the original funk-soul sound. Maybe soul is played out to you, maybe you've had your fill of it, but why should that make you think her shit ain't original? Listen to those tracks. Her band is the tightest funk this side of the NPG. If you're a souler, just buy her albums NOW. http://www.daptonerecords...haron.html I appologise if these have been discussed before.
