To all of you people who say Prince vs. MJ was a media created thing, have you ever thought of the possibility that the two themselves might as well have contributed to it? I'm sure they're not stupid, both got heaps of publicity through the "rivalry", and we all know what publicity does to the sales... Clever, I'd say.

It’s a media created rivalry, but has there been any bigger in the history of popular music. I’m only 27 and it’s one of the biggest music rivalries in my lifetime. What’s the biggest rivalry in music history? Is it Biggie vs. Pac?

OF COURSE IT IS...

Classic SHIT...
lol lol

As a dancer/entertainer/singer/greatvideomaker Mike didn't have any rival and still has no rival...

As a composer/producer/singer/musician, Prince didn't have any rival, and still has no rival...

Nothing to say...

wink

Rewind 1995, in the UK. Blur vs Oasis. Fucking hilarious and being just a kid at the time I lapped it all up!

Prince vs. Michael Jackson? That was never a rivalry to begin with. I think they both respected one another's art and they never even commented on each other.

exactly. the media fed people that shit.

for continuous hit singles how about the king of pop vs the queen of pop (michael jackson vs madonna) or for a more bitter media orientated rivalry robbie williams/blur versus oasis

Too much admiration amongst both. Madonna’s done Billie Jean interludes in the middle of her songs on stage, how many artists would do that? She woulda banged his silly ass to. Kit Culkin says that she got nude in front of him.

Does Simon Cowell like Robbie Williams? That would be a real battle of twits.

Huh? Could u elaborate on that?

Anyway, MJ never really spoke highly of her (criticised her singing and dancing ability) and Madonna snubbed him for Warren Beatty when they attended the Oscars together. Also, MJ was pretty jealous when Madonna won some award for 80's artist of the decade, or something like that. I think there's a mutual respect between them, but that don't mean no rivalry.

I haven't got a clue about either of the two I just threw Robbie's name out there for arguments sake

MJ told Mac's father the Madonna got naked in front of him?????

When? Certainly not publicly????

and Madonna snubbed him for Warren Beatty when they attended the Oscars together.

She wanted to get some ass. Her and Mike had been on terms before that anyway.

Also, MJ was pretty jealous when Madonna won some award for 80's artist of the decade, or something like that.

Hearsay! and if Mike did get jealous then he's a fool. The man has more awards then he can count.

I think there's a mutual respect between them, but that don't mean no rivalry.

I don't see it. The fans don't clash. Mike was definitely concerned when P showed up on the scene.

There's no way Madonna would strip for MJ, no way. Unless she viewed sleeping with him a challenge or something...

Everything I said above came from various Madonna biograghies I've semi-read(whenever I see a new Madonna book in a bookstore I check the index for MJ and Prince)

As for the merits of their rivalry, given that they were the two biggest selling stars of the 80s, that they both produced primarily pop music and pop hits, and both put on similarly extravagant stadium sell out concerts...surely there must be some rivalry?

Prince was much more diverse, and Purple Rain aside, much less of a commercial force to be considered by MJ a rival.

Some of their fans clash!
