David Ryan Harris - unjacked

Since we were having the DRH discussion on the Vic Wooten thread, I decided to start this one, in all fairness to the Victor Wooten topic, which merits plenty of discussion on its own.
I had no idea that there was a Van Hunt/David Ryan Harris connection!

I Loved this album!

some remember David in Follow For Now, But I also remember that both he and Van Hunt were in Dionne Farris's band at the same time: David played lead and guitar(and was the band director), and Van played rhythm guitar and doubled on keyboards(her band later included Time guitarist Tori Ruffin)....

I'm sorry....just realized I'm contibuting to thread-jackin'...

biggrin Thanks, BlaqueKnight!

...yeah, if you check out any of Dionne Farris's videos or appearances from back then ('circa '94-95), you'll see both David and Van layin it down! David would also use the bottleneck to give songs like "I Know" some extra Thang (btw, her band also included former Follow For Now bassist Milton Davis)...

Isn't it funny how these bad ass cats cross paths but somehow never individually blow up enough to take the music industry back? biggrin I'm kidding, but deep down, I wish for a musical "Justice League". The only way musicians are going to get the industry back is to collectively TAKE IT BACK.

OTAN turned me on the DRH and I've got to say (after buying everything in every carnation) this guy is one of my favorite artists. Versatile, poetic, soulful and an awesome guitarist.

His lack of fame and popularity is a crime against humanity.

In the '90's,I used to go see FFN every chance I got. Their cd is still one of my favorite and I like the Brand New Immortal's cd. Harris is extremely talented and ,matter of fact,Follow For Now was a super talented band.I thought they were gonna be huge. I still rock my black FFN black tee and the Fuck The White Hood white tee. I also met Dionne once and had a conversation with her.She was very cool. She invited me to join her video shoot and I didn't show for some reason that I still can't fathom. She's another one that I thought was gonna have a long career in the spotlight.

Yeah, what's up with Dionne? I know she did some background vocals on Van Hunt's album, in fact he says in his liner notes, "Dionne anytime you're ready..."...But what she doin? she kept threatening to put an album out independently, a few years back, and they even had snippets of it on her website for awhile, then nothing! what's the deal--anybody know?

The Brand New Immortals project was excellent. Great music. Great production. It's a shame that DRH or BNI did not recieve the recognition that is derserved.
