Sreisand - Gibb - Guilty

I was just reading another thread and there are people hating on this album. I can't understand why!!! It's a classic!

A father of a friend of mine was having an affair in the early 80s and played this album continuously. When his wife found out, she took the vinyl album off the turntable, snapped it in half and threw it at his head.

Music just doesn't move people like that anymore. lol

i was playing the songs guilty and what kind of fool in my car the other day...babs hasn't sounded that way since. pairing with the bee gees, especially maurice. kinda brought that casual r&b listener who liked the bee gees sound to listen to streisand. very good album

I always preferred the Bee Gees when their songs were covered. Dionne Warwick's 'Heartbreaker'; Diana Ross's 'More And More'... Even 'Immortality' by Celine Dion.

Has anyone ever covered "How Deep Is Your Love?"? That would be interesting to hear, that's an awesome love song.

Interesting to have the producer ALL UP on the album cover. Funny that Timbaland didn't think of that, since he's in every damn video for a song he produced. Missy Elliot's publicity photos should look like him in drag.

The two big hits off this album - Guilty and Woman in Love - are some of the biggest pieces of schlock in pop history. I remember hearing them on the radio LOTS when I was a kid. Oh, and I kinda like both of them.

It surprises me that more artists don't cover The Bee Gees songs.Their songs, the melodies, and the arrangements are incredible. If I were a singer,I'd be all over a song like "Too Much Heaven".

It makes sense for Barry to be on the cover.Like Prince,he pretty much dominates any project that he is involved with.Remember the 1978 hit "Emotion" by Samantha Sang? That song should be billed as 'The Bee Gees featuring Samantha Sang' lol

I kinda fink they're overly covered. I get frustrated hearing other versionz lol It startz to sound so tired. I can't say i honestly like any covered Bee Geez song. Da originalz are da bomb- they were what they were- and no bland boy band (sorry 2 those who like em gummybear ) or flowery vocal diva could ever quite get da same vibe as they created. I feel dat way about alotta 'old school' artistz- i mean you know, it'z nice they have admiration for em and all but when i hear da song covered and then it becomez a craze and then it getz to da point of overkill- i just feel like these guyz and galz should go and take a break from their fame (im sure they've made a heap of $$$) and work on their musicianship a bit and strive for their own individual vibe. So lazy they become...they rely on makin coverz to possibly give them some street cred - and then rely on their glossy image and merchandise to make up da most of why they are doin so well on da chartz.

I'm ranting please forgive me, just dat originality in music on commercial radio is so rare. neutral

http://www.beegees-world.com/ Check the Covers section. You may not have heard of many of the artists but there's a hell of a lot of them.

The only Streisand's I can stand (and I can't stands no mo).

Mr. Gibb is an absolute master of the pop hook. How many amazing melodies has this bastard coughed up?? I was never crazy about the . . uhhh. . .distinctively warbly voices of the Brother Gibb. .but the man's songwriting credits are kinda damn towering--consider all the bonafide classics the Bee Gees made BEFORE Saturday Night Fever broke (and the hair got more uhh, luxuriant lookin).

Also nice for the same era as 'Guilty' . .Dionne's 'Heartbreaker'

Exactly. Which is why I have no shame in liking them. Their harmony vocals are beautiful, too. I was playing For Whom The Bell Tolls just yesterday, and even tho' it's a twelve year old song I was still blown away by the singing on the choruses. Stunning stuff.

Amen! Barry Gibb truly knows how to write and compose a song. His melodies, the choruses, and the hooks are all superb.Even after all this time,I am still amazed at his work.Go find any of his compostions and just check out the choruses, such as Samantha Sang's "Emotion"...

"It's just emotion that's taken me over
tied up in sorrow, lost in my soul
and if you don't come back, come home to me darlin'
you know that there'll be nobody left in this world to hold me tight
nobody left in this world to kiss good-night
Good night,good night,good night....good night"

You mentioned Dionne Warwick's "Heartbreaker".Again, check out the chorus...

"Why do you have to be a heartbreaker
is it a lesson that I never knew
I gotta get out of this spell that I'm under
My love for you
Why do you have to be a heartbreaker
when I was being what you want me to be
Suddenly,everything I've ever wanted
has passed me by
This world may end...not you and I"

and those are just the choruses. The verses are also outstanding. These guys are genuises.
