Bowie had the FUNK!! Man, I'm grooving to "The Secret Life of Arabia" right now, and I must say, it's one of the funkiest tracks Bowie has done. This proves that the Chameleon definitely had the FUNK!
What are some of your favorite funky Bowie tracks? Here's mine: The Secret Life of Arabia Fame Ashes to Ashes Let's Dance Golden Years Fashion Sound & Vision John I'm Only Dancing (again) Red Money Fascination Be My Wife Beauty & the Beast (it's funky in that Talking Heads kinda way ) Breaking Glass Speed of Life .....and many more. [Edited 3/19/05 18:35pm] NEW WAVE FOREVER: SLAVE TO THE WAVE FROM THE CRADLE TO THE GRAVE.

He most definitely had it. And soul. Some of his absolute best songs are in that list right there. I'd have to add to that... Stay The end of Station To Station Right 1984 Blackout D.J. Repetition It's No Game Let's Dance Criminal World Black Tie, White Noise Don't Let Me Down & Down I Feel Free and even a few of his more recent songs like We Prick You, Seven Years In Tibet, and 5:15 The Angels Have Gone were kinda funky.

In my opinion, the cuts that earned Bowie his Funk Pass were Fame, Fashion, Let's Dance, Golden Years, and Fashion.

I'm not one to comment on the level of funkiness, but I want to add "Young Americans" the song always makes me want to get up and groove.
Also, the title track of "Never Let Me Down" while maybe not funk, it fits the catagory of a cool song. ^-^;
