10CC I'm not in love Anybody remember this song. I remember hearing it on the radio a lot back in the 70's (when music was good ) anyway the lyrics were just MEAN. Example: " I keep your picture up on the wall it hides a nasty stain that lying there, so don't you asked me to give it back athough you know it dos'nt mean that much to me"
Brutal! But you gotta admire the guy honesty

i love this song...a chick has gotta have some low self esteem to deal with a man like that you look better on your facebook page than you do in person

Brutal! But you gotta admire the guy honesty I took the song differently. To me, it seems to be about a guy who's trying to convince himself that he's over a relationship, when he obviously isn't ...especially when the voice wanders in saying, "Be quiet, Big Boys Don't cry, big boys don't cry", and he claims that he's keeping the picture only to hide a nasty stain, but then he says, "So don't ask me to give it back", but then he quickly claims,"although you know it doesn't mean that much to me." it sounds like he's trying to console himself by denying he was in love though he obviously is, and he's trying to act like it never bothered him--- to me, it always seemed like he's trying to put up an indifferent front, but he's trying not to cry and doesn't want to give the picture back...seems like the man's insisting he's gotten over the relationship when, in fact, he hasn't ...that's my take, anyway... ... She's a doormat to him. in the lyric book, it says "You'll wait a long time for me", I thought it's like he's determined not to show any emotion over it... see, I took that as more of him putting up a front. Throughought the whole song, he's trying to come up with denials about his feelings: "I'm not in love, no, no...it's because..."...it seems like he's in complete denial...he obviously wants to call her, he wont give the picture back, he won't even cry when he feels like it... I always took it as a clever song that at first sounds cold and aloof, then the middle passage comes in , with the "big boys don't cry" repeated over and over and then, you get the different point of view and see that it's actually him trying to convince himself that he's not upset over the whole thing... ... I love this song to pieces! I was actually going to start a thread on this a while back (and perhaps I still will, because it relates to another song), but didn't get around to it.
I'm with paligap on this one - I don't think it's a mean song at all. It's obviously about somebody refusing to believe they're "weak" enough to fall in love. The bit about the picture hiding a nasty stain on the wall is just an excuse not to take it down. Beautiful song, and I absolutely adore those overdubbed vocals.

I love this song. I believe it was either blackguitaritz or David Eye that mentioned on another thread that it has an "outer space" feel to it. That's what I love about it. Andy is a four letter word.

A lot of their really good songs are also kinda goofy. Things We Do for Love is one of them along with Life is a Minestrone, I'm Mandy Fly Me and Channel Swimmer.
