"Tell Me, I'm Not Dreamin"

Does anyone remember that song by Jermaine Jackson featuring brother Michael. I love that sing, one of my favorites. I was looking it up, and it wasn't even a single. Bad move my Jermaine, it ould have been hit.

Yeah, it is one of Jermaine's best. It's definitely better than Dynamite, from the same album. They shoulda swapped which was released as a single.

Robert Palmer did indeed do a remake of this song...not as funky as Jermaine & Michael's chemistry but all in all I dont' believe it wudda been a video. But worthy of a single

Michael supposedly didn't want it to be a single.

I've read that it was CBS that didn't want the title released as a single, and Jermaine was Bitter that Michael didn't stand against his record compagny then.

To me, Jermaine's music just went downhill when he left Motown and signed with Arista. I prefer his Motown work (Let's Get Serious, Burnin' Hot, Feelin' Free, Paradise In Your Eyes, Let Me Tickle Your Fancy, etc.) by far.

Iam the opposite of what u said. I find his motown stuff flat and uninspired. I love his arista stuff.....

Though "tell me I'm not dreaming" is not one of my favs. The song "dynamite" is miles better.....sorta new wavey.....

I heard this too.Jermaine's label (Arista) was dying to release it as a single, but Michael's label (Epic) refused, probably because they didn't want it to compete with the upcoming "State Of Shock" single. In any case, the song received tremendous airplay on R&B radio stations in the spring/summer of 1984.In my opinion,it's a better song than the silly "State Of Shock".

I reckon Jacko refused. I bet Mike didn't even want to do the song at that time..

I don't see why.The song is better than that ridiculous Mick Jagger duet lol

But I do recall, around this time,MJ being very concerned about overexposure. That's why he didn't film a video for "State Of Shock",or appear in the Jackson's videos from the Victory album ("Torture" and "Body").

A video to "state of shock" woulda been funny. I heard on the "victory" tour that they didn't play any "victory" tracks. Despite "state of shock" being a big hit. I have got "body" video. It's ok. Yes Michael isn't in it.....

I think "torture" is better then "tell me I'm not dreamin'". U know Jermaine joined at the last second for "victory" album, which is why he is only co-lead vox on "torture" (which was Jackies duet with MJ)

Jermaine

Moonlight took me by surprise
Light coming from your eyes
Are you with me, am I here with you?
Are we in paradise?
(Tell Me I'm Not Dreamin')
I Know I've been here before
You go, then you come back for more, oh
It's a mystery how you disappear
Like a shadow in the night
(Tell Me I'm Not Dreamin')
Oh, are you too good to be true?
(Tell Me I'm Not Dreamin')
Tell me, are you too good to be true?
(Tell me I'm Not dreamin')
X2

Michael
Midnight, images of you
You slipped into my room
Could be magic, could be fantasy,
Could it be that we're in love?
(Tell Me I'm Not Dreamin')
Ooh, your voice whispers in the dark
You're talking to my heart
Are you with me, am I here with you?
Are we in paradise? (ohh)
(Tell Me I'm Not Dreamin')
Oh, are you too good to be true?
(Tell Me I'm Not Dreamin')
Tell me, are you, oh, yeah, too good to be true?
(Tell Me I'm Not Dreamin')
X2

(Bridge)
Jermaine

When the morning comes wake me with your love
Let me know that I'm not dreaming, baby

Michael

Tell me this is real, tell me how you feel
say it's what we both believe in

You know what's funny? Michael began 1984 with several duets/collaborations...

"Say Say Say" with Paul McCartney
"Somebody's Watching Me" by Rockwell featuring Michael
"Tell Me I'm Not Dreamin" by Jermaine Jackson and Michael
"State Of Shock" by Michael and Mick Jagger
"Torture" lead vocals by Jermaine and Michael

which one would y'all say is the best?

"Torture" (even though this is with the group and not really a duet in the sense), and I'm still waiting for Mike to release a "Duets CD" with these songs plus, "Scream", "It's The Falling In Love" "We Are The World", "Ease On Down the Road", "Just Good Friends, "Get It", "I Just Can't Stop Loving You", that horrible Eddie Murphy song, etc. I'd buy this CD...

I recall when this song came out in early '84.Our local radio station erroneously reported that it was the new Jacksons single (lol). So we thought that it was one of the brothers (Tito, perhaps?) doing the verses, with Mike on the chorus. In actuality, this would have been a cool song for The Jacksons to launch their 'Victory' album with.

lol,that's MJ singing the chorus...

"I always feel like.....somebody's watching meeeee"

Rockwell is Berry Gordy's son,so MJ performed on his debut single as a favor.

I totally agree with you!!! Jermaine's music was smokin' with Motown because Berry Gordy was crazy about him and Jermaine was given total musical control and carte blanche!!! Tell Me I'm Not Dreaming was a phenomenal jam with Michael!!! Michael should have continued to record with his brothers in between making solo albums. They were monstrous!!!!
