Legendary songstress Paula Abdul charged with hit and run Paula Abdul charged with hit-and-run
LOS ANGELES (AP) — American Idol judge Paula Abdul was charged Thursday with hit-and-run driving for allegedly fleeing after her car clipped another vehicle on a freeway last December. The city attorney's office filed the misdemeanor count, which carries a maximum sentence of six months in jail and a $1,000 fine. A message left for Abdul's spokeswoman wasn't immediately returned. Authorities contend Abdul was driving Dec. 20 on a highway about 15 miles northwest of downtown when she changed lanes and struck another vehicle, causing minor damage. The driver and passenger snapped a photograph with a cellular phone camera and wrote down the license plate number of the car, which was traced to Abdul, city attorney's office spokesman Frank Mateljan said. The National Enquirer and TV show Celebrity Justice, citing sources they didn't identify, reported that Abdul told highway patrol investigators her car couldn't have been involved because it was in the repair shop that day. However, authorities reportedly found that the car went in for repairs the following day. "We're not able to comment" on those reports, said Ricardo Quintero, a highway patrol spokesman. Can we get the trial to be sticky, like MJ's? (Just kidding about the legendary songstress part, for the slow-witted ) you look better on your facebook page than you do in person | |

Well, anyway,VH1.com now reports: At an arraignment Thursday afternoon in Los Angeles, Paula Abdul's lawyer helped her to face the music, pleading no contest to a misdemeanor hit-and-run charge on behalf of the singer. The incident occurred during a December fender-bender on a Los Angeles freeway (see "Prosecutors Mulling Hit-And-Run Charges Against Paula Abdul"). "Celebrity Justice" has reported that the driver of the other car took a photo of Abdul's Mercedes-Benz's license plate with his camera phone, and his passenger allegedly recognized the "American Idol" judge. Abdul reportedly left the scene of the scrape without exchanging information with the other driver and later denied to California Highway Patrol investigators that she was involved in the collision. The former Laker Girl's plea is not an admission of guilt. According to the Los Angeles city attorney's office, Abdul was sentenced to two years of informal probation and ordered to pay $775 in restitution to the other driver as well as fines and penalties totaling $900.
