Z Cult Favorite - Parliament/Fantasy Is Reality "Fantasy Is Reality" is my favorite ballad from Parliament. From Parliament's Live/P.Funk Earth Tour album from 77. It was a studio recording for the album, placed at the midnight hour. It was an older song that dated back to 1970. It was specifically re-cut just for this album. Man, I just love this song. The melody, the old-time gospel feel, all that mixed with some beautiful guitar leads.
"Fantasy is reality in the world today" Who else here digs this song? SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."

As if I don't have enough CDs, I'll have to go get this one. I don't believe I've heard this one before, P-Funk has so much stuff out that I've never heard before. Jeux Sans Frontiers

If I recall correctly, that version was also on the 'Tear the Roof Off' compilation.
Speaking of Parliament . .has anybody heard anything about any more upcoming remastering of the catalogue??? I keep praying they'll get around to polishing up some Funkentelechy . . . (when you've taken every kind of pill . .)

"Recollections of what Granddaddy used to say..."
This cut solidified my love for Parliament and made me pay closer attention to their ballads. I was in college before I actually (re)discovered the catalog of Parliament. I used to piss everyone off in the dorm playing this song and loud and as many times as I could.

Which version do u like best? hard to say...I grew up with the P-funk Earth Tour version, I didn't hear the original until the late 90's....I'm kinda diggin' that one , if only because it's newer to me.... man it's hard to pick a favorite ANYTHANG by Parliament.
However, I have to admit a strong weakness for the Up For The Downstroke version of ALL YOUR GOODIES ARE GONE. Like infinity, it never gets old.

Yeah, I definately grew up with the Earth Tour version. Even though I dig the 0.g., I have a soft spot for the second version. SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. I used to piss everyone off in the dorm playing this song and loud and as many times as I could. The guitar leads are beautiful, man. The way the whole song is mixed too, I think, is what really does it. The vocals, backing and lead, the piano, yeah, it's killing. Parliament, as popular as they are, I STILL feel they are truly underated. I wonder if folks truly grasp the... deepness. Is that a word? I mean, Parliament-Funkadelic, to me, was the most versatile and most conceptual band. They put other 70's funk, r&b, rock bands to shame. See, Parliament could play Zeppelin. Zeppelin couldn't play Parliament. SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."
