Incognito

I just recently discovered this funky acid jazz band, and I think they are great.
Reminds me a bit of Brand New Heavies.

They released a new cd last year, Adventures In Black Sunshine, and I think it was one of last years greatest.

Any other fans of this sunny, joyful band?

...what sosgemini said.

I've been a fan for over ten years, but I'm not that familiar with their more recent work. I highly recommend Positivity and Inner Shade's 4 Corners (it's an offshoot project which features the Incognito lineup, including Maysa Leak).

nod

I discovered them on "Acid Jazz" compilations in the mid 90's (when compilation albums were being released a hundred by the week!) and thought they were cool coz, like you said, they reminded me of The Brand New Heavies. Even to date, I think they're the only two Brit jazz funk bands that managed to receive any sort of recognition, all be it for a short period (even though Incognito have been going for 15 years plus).

You've inspired me to go hunt for their music again smile Thanks!

They've always been kinda hit and miss with me, but I think that, out of all their albums, my favorite might be 1995's 100 Degrees and Rising:

but I think they're always better when Maysa's around, so albums like Beneath The Surface are pretty cool, too..

Ditto. I miss Maysa but I think they're still a great band. My other favorite is Positivity.

Same here. Although No Time Like the Future is a very solid album. Streets of Merakesch(sp) is amazing.
