I don't want her to go back either, but I still think it's her best work.

I saw two. And I really wanted to like them. But I just didn't. One was for Cloudbusting (sorry Cloudy sad ) and the other I believe was from The Sensual World, there was a black background and I believe a band. Maybe she'll just take some work, but all the endless comparisons to Tori has me defensively taking sides.

You didn't like Cloudbusting? whofarted

Fuck! That's my fave song. I shan't be talking to you again. talk to the hand

Well, if you start a Kate Bush phase by jumping headfirst into The Dreaming,... no no no!

I'd rather people start at the beginning and work from there. Her albums are a natural progression and I think The Dreaming is a bit heavy when you start discovering Kate Bush.

It's filled with soundscapes and experimentation. I myself rate it my favest Kate album, so...

Was planning to, but I talked him out of it. Not because it is not good, cuz I think it's her best, but because I think it's advanced listening.

I know I am right.

I bought The Dreaming, The Sensual World and The Red Shoes all within the last couple weeks. I figure I should just give her a chance and see what I think. I know Hounds of Love is supposed to be her best, but I haven't been able to find it around. What's so impossible about The Dreaming? I listen to some pretty fucked up stuff.

You might like it, then. It's just not very easy listening, that's all.

I'm surprised you've actually bought three of her albums already. I thought you'd just chance one and see how you got on with it.

Anyhoo, I hope you enjoy them.

And where's that new album? That damn woman!
She should just give the tapes to me. I'll finish the fucking thing myself. mad

Describe it to me. I'll hold off until I get a few more to actually start listening like Gooey suggested. He seems to feel pretty strongly about that. And usually when I commit to get into somebody with a long career, I don't think it's fair to judge them just based on one work. I usually want to know what it's all about and see how much I like it. Plus, with the frequent mentions of Kate on here, I just broke down and gave in.

Well, she may have had a long career but she ain't done much. lol

How would I describe The Dreaming? hmmm

It's kinda like a Bjork album in the sense that it's uncompromising stuff. Not what you would call commercial music even tho' she was considered (oddly) a commercial artist. The vocal work is extraordinary in the sense that she adopts a different voice for almost every song. And the music is kinda tailored to the lyrics on a lot of the songs, almost as if they're set pieces. Very theatrical in parts. It wasn't very well recieved by the critics at the time (altho' it peaked at no.3 in the UK) because even tho' she was known for being unusual, people thought she'd just completely lost the plot at this point. However, it's now regarded as one of her finest works. It might take a long time to fully appreciate (if at all) but if you click with it then you'll probably find it a very rewarding album. There's still occasions when I hear something new in it and I got my first copy over 15 yrs ago!

I've heard people describe it as frightening. Why is that?

Lots of deep, threatning voices. To some, at least.

Musically it is very driven too. To me it is the album where she pulls open all registers when it comes to use of voices. She screams, breathes, goes high, goes low and yet makes the album into a unity...

I love the freeform of the songs, the instrumentation. The drive... sigh, so beautiful.

Put it on just now... Sat In Your Lap is playing now...

It's a very intense record, too. Especially the closing track, Get Out Of My House which she said was partly inspired by Stephen King's The Shining. Some have said it may also be about rape. I can understand that. The backing vocals on that song are pretty scary, there's real anguish in her voice.

I am now listening to Leave It Open...

The way she uses voices and effects on this album sumtimes makes me remember that scene from Poltergeist... remember when the voices are trying to come through; it sumtimes sounds like that; spooky, unworldly.

Oh well, I stopped trying to hip people to music I like. Or feel hurt when they ridicule my most loved artists... I have come to expect it.

It her most wholesome album, next to The Kick Inside (which sounds SO sweet to me as well). To me HOL, TKI and The Dreaming are her three best and which I like best varies from time to time.

Right now it's The Dreaming.

He didn't dislike it, just thought it absurd.

And you're a fine one to talk about having your fave artists ridiculed.
How many times have you ribbed me about the Bee Gees? razz

Those three and The Sensual World are her best, imo.

Altho' I don't consider any of her albums to be poor. They're all better than average to my ears. Yes, even The Red Shoes.

Hehehe.
Common, The BG's are as silly as Olivia Newton-John and The Carpenters. I love 'm all. I s'pose it's in the genes.

But I just don't own anything by the BeeGees.... that's all.

Fuck you comparing my boys to ONJ and The Carpenters. What a bitch! lol

They've just had another number one. Which I think makes them the only band to have number ones over five consecutive decades.
Not bad for a crap band, eh? smile

This is in the UK, right?

Nuf said. Clif Richard has number ones in the UK... hmm

Can't you just accept I do not like them? Just imagine you have a more superior taste in music than I do. Will make you feel better.
