But I have to admit something--As a kid I hated Janet on 'Good Times' . .I couldnt stand how overly corny she was, with that dopey/spacey look on her face all the time. I thought Ms. Willona Woods was just bad as hell, and that Penny was way too lame to be adopted by her.

It's the age-old story of wrong-headedly thinking that adding some cute 'cuddly' character to a show will save it after it's lost its way. I call it Scrappy Doo Doo Syndrome.

There, I've said it. Yes, I didn't feel any love for precious Penny Doo.

Did you really feel the need to hold that in all these years? Seriously, you coulda let that cat outta the bag any old time. lol

But what do you think is a betta show. Good Times or The Jeffersons?

I love that latter so much!

Both shows were great but I tend to like "Good Times" better.

I prefer the earlier episodes of "The Jeffersons" with Mother Jefferson. She really made the show for me. I used to love to hear her talk about Louise.

With "Good Times", it's the opposite. I prefer the later episodes after James died and after Thelma married Keith. I would love to have seen a reunion movie about them after they got rich and moved to Lakeshore Drive.

Funny you should start this thread.I just bought the Season Four DVD of "Good Times".It came out a few weeks ago. This is the first season without the father (he dies in a car crash at the beginning of this season).I think Janet doesn't appear until Season Five, which will be released on DVD later this year.

I hated the way she (Penny) was always grinning and running behind JJ.

I was waiting for someone to comment on this ridiculous story line! I mean, of anything else on that show, I could never see how ANYbody, even a child, could have a crush on JJ!! Jeez!!!

I'd have to say "Good Times" is the better show, but I love "The Jeffersons" too.Speaking of the Jeffersons....when are they gonna put Season Three on DVD?? "Good Times" Season Four has just been released, and Season Five is on the way.But "The Jeffersons" is taking forever!

Since we're talking about TV shows on DVD...where is Season Two of "Barney Miller"?? lol

The Jeffersons.

I notice to this day George Jefferson is the only Black person on tv to get away with calling White people "honkies."

yeah..and to think that abc censored Robin Williams for eluding to cartoon characters doing meth.....Good Times & The Jeffersons would never make it on basic television...

they'd be shoo'd away to cable.....

Thats EXAAAAACTLY why I favor 'em over the so-called keepin' it real/ghetto sitcoms we have nowadays.

Plus, I learn alot from the 70's black sitcoms.
