Jeff Buckley Any thoughts on him from anyone here?
I absolutely adore his debut album "Grace", his voice is angelic and the songs are so sombre and melodic. His voice just makes them soar too. I think he had the potential to be a musical legend someday had he not died before his second album was even truly finished. The world is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.

I love Grace, but I still need to check out 'Sketches' and 'Grace EP's'. Buckley's voice is amazing; he gives me chills everytime I listen to him. I'm the first mammal to wear pants.

Yeah, listening to Sketches makes me even sadder about his death, cause you can really hear the growth in those songs; musically and lyrically. The way Grace is so eclectic reminds me so much of the way Prince always blends different styles on his best albums. On a side note, Forget Her is one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard. I think Jeff Buckley in someways could be described as a musical angel. To me he felt like the real thing, undiluted, ferocious. I think he achieved a kind of spirituality in music without it being frowned upon. Always appearing loving which shone through in his music.
He had one of the most fantastic voices I've heard but I think he was a fantastic guitar player as well. He used a lot of open tuning and jazz and blues, things people still don't bother exploring. He wasn't concerned about 4/4 rock/pop geared at the charts. Listening to Live at L'Olympia leaves me open-mouthed. Grace was a great debut, staking out all the stylistic territory. I think he was getting ready to make his first real record, working out what he wanted to say without letting that wonderful voice distract people from his internal emotion. He had a vast plain to work in and tragically he never really got to work it.

I just got into him a couple of months ago and I started a thread about how great he was. I don't know why it took me so long to listen to Grace, but by the second song, I was speechless. Love him. Grace is wonderful, and the unfinished Sketches... is also a must, although it's a sad signpost to what might have been, had he lived... " I've got six things on my mind --you're no longer one of them." - Paddy McAloon, Prefab Sprout

[Edited 3/14/05 17:30pm] Heh, yeah. I think it was released in '98. Not so recent at all... The world is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.

Yeah , i meant to say "how can the album be resent when he died in 1997 ?",
but then again it might've been the Grace Legacy edition

I have the Grace: Legacy Edition too-it's great. I'd recommend it for the awesome DVD alone that has like a 20 minute documentary on him and all his vids.
Two bonus songs on it are fantastic though. "The Other Woman" is beautifully sublime, and "Forget Her" may be the most heart-wrenching, stunning song he ever composed. The world is a comedy for those who think and a tragedy for those who feel.

I'm just getting into Ryan Adams, I bought Love is Hell and it reminds me so much of a Jeff Buckley album. Buckley's definitely better, but I think Adams must've studied up on Grace before he put out his CD. I'm the first mammal to wear pants.

The first night my ex and I hung out, he played lots of different music which impressed me. One of the cds he played was Grace. I had never heard it before. It was sooooo beautiful. I'm almost positive we had our first kiss during "So Real."
A few months later we had a nice encounter during You and I... We kissed during that whole song... he said he always wanted to do that. So romantic... So it's hard for me to listen to Jeff Buckley... I tend to connect him to my ex and what I had wished for or thought I had with him. When we broke up, I wanted to get rid of my Jeff Buckley cds... but I kept them. I've been hearing him on the radio lately, and this thread prompted me to open up the cd case and take a listen once more. He is really great. So much emotion and beauty in his voice. So much versatility in his music. Too bad he's no longer with us.
