Why are some people ashamed of the music they listen too?

you hear it all the time things like "i am ashamed to admit i like the Bee Gees"
"i'm ashamed i listened to hair metal in the 80's" "i used to like Milli Vanilli im afraid to admit" etc.....why be afraid? you should be proud of the music that you like or liked..how many times have you hidden the fact that you are a big Prince fan over the years just not to sound uncool? shit once a girl i liked pull a Donny Osmond (soldier of love) tape out of my pocket in an arcade and laughed like hell..but so what thats why music is so special there is something out there for each individual taste...get those KC and the sunshine bands tapes out of the closet and be proud! and enjoy them smile
Check it out ...Shiny Toy Guns R gonna blowup VERY soon and bring melody back to music..you heard it here 1st! http://www.myspacecomment...theone.mp3

thats fair for you because there is no Artist on your list that people LOVE to HATE, you know like artist such as
Celion,
Phill Collins,
Michael Bolton,
old STING,
Rod Stewart,
Mariah,
Whitney,
Bon Jovi
basically most artist that do love ballads.. am not Saying whether these artist are cool or not but there seems to be a trend to HATE on POP Ballad singers, they dont get respect, You wouldnt get allot of people admitting to those being their favourite artist because its seen as uncool, whether you want to argue its talent or not is a-non finish arguement. these artist still had to work and fight for a record deal just the same as any other Rock, Funk artist.

i do not wish to dissrespect anyone who listens to anyone, but i think Audience put it best when

i agree... i was just making a statement alot of people cant stand the 5th dimension or Melanie.. etc etc. i mean shit i heard Cherish by david cassidy growing up and i thought he did a bang up job of it smile and ive admitted it on several occasions.

what the general concensus says about whats "hip or cool" is bullshit. if u dig it and then dig on.. cant worry about what people think about what your ear goggles see and feel ya know?

Well, for starters for the same goddamn reason why I don't parade around with a t-shirt that says "I prefer ladies' shoes over their tits". Some things are just best kept a-secret, no matter how much pleasure they might provide you behind closed doors. A matter of taste is not a completely open matter. It has always the communal aspect included as well.

Well, I like early 70s glam rock, even though I didn't grow up with it because I was just being born. lol Bands like Slade, The Sweet, Bowie, etc. which many consider to be cheesy and campy, (with the exception of Bowie perhaps) but I love it. My favorite though is T.Rex.

Good question. I'm not ashamed of any music I like. If others don't like it, that's fine, but I've never been ashamed or embarrassed by my taste in music.
