In addition to owning that incredibly wild and powerful voice, I've always felt Yoko possessed a subversive, deadpan sense of humor that a lot of people just plain weren't hip to . . .sure, I can understand why many have knee-jerk reactions to some of her more extreme music, but I've never really understood why people had such undying hatred for her--and why they think she's deserving of it. She's endured far more prejudicial hatred than any other celeb I can think of--decades of it.

Really, what the fuck is the bitch guilty of???

she broke up the Beatles

no. ego, drugs, and burn out broke up the beatles.

Is she an artist in her own right?

Hell no! shake

EDIT: BTW, Yoko did not break up The Beatles. It was the professional/personal egos of John & Paul that ended that music era.

I wouldn't dare to call pretentious something I don't understand.
I don't get Stravinsky but I'll never say e was a bad musician shake

Personally I like much of her stuff (maybe listening before critizising helps a little).
Just looked and I have like 127 songs by her in my iPod right now cool

I think the answer's yes. smile

Oh, she IS pretentious, but that's not why I dislike her. If I hated pretentious music, I could never listen to George Michael ever again.

As for why people hate her? Well, people needed someone to blame for the breakup of an incredibly important band. The charge that she broke up The Beatles is crap, but people always have to have a person to blame. She was seen as responsible for the breakup of John's marriage, so she was certainly an easy target (it also doesn't help that John shoved her down the public's throats)/ She didn't manipulate John though. As brilliant of a musician as he was, he still had his head firmly up his ass in his personal life.

I don't like her music much, but more than that I can't get past her awful voice. As another orger put it, she sounds like a cat in a blender. If you don't mind that, then cool, but I cannot stomach it.

hmmm Here is a prime example of why no one's taking the Yoko fans seriously. You want everyone to give her a chance, yet you bash a band like The Beatles? To quote John "If you go carrying pictures of Chairman Mao, you ain't gonna make it with anyone anyhow". You won't convince anyone to give Ono a fair shake when you make such ridiculous comments. I'm sure it must be difficult to have one of your favorite artists bashed regularly, but firing back in such a way just cements her detractors' positions.

I acknowledge that she has talent, but I don't get all this "goddess" nonsense. I've heard her music, and it does nothing for me. Her voice is, easily, the most grating thing I've ever heard. She is artistic, if quite pretentious. I'm sure she has quite a bit of fascinating music and lyrics, but I've yet to hear anything that deserves the accolades that you bestow upon her. If she's your cuppa tea, then cool. Just don't expect anyone to take her seriously when you are busy bashing John & The Beatles. Just makes folks think you have bad taste, plain and simple.
