The Tears (Brett Anderson + Bernard Butler of Suede)

Hi,
on April 18 the first single "Refugees" by The Tears will be released. Followed by the album "Here come the Tears" on May 2. This is the new Band by Brett Anderson and Bernard Butler of Suede who reunited again.
I am really looking forward to their album because I thought Suede were one of the best bands of the 90s.
The artwork for the single and the album was posted on their official Website
www.thetears.org today. You can find it in the news-section of their Forum.
I would post it here but it is not allowed to copy it.

Anyone else looking forward to the release here?

He's grown tired of seeking fame solo, huh?
Good for him.

I guess I'm slightly curious - I think the first Suede album and the second half of Dog Man Star are probably the best Bowie tributes ever commited to tape. However, I really haven't paid attention to anything either of them have done in years. I'd hear the odd latter-day Suede single, and they usually would sound fine, but I never felt inspired to seek out the albums. I'll give this a chance, but I'm not exactly overwhelmed with anticipation, if you know what I mean...

I'm definitely curious. Its kinda weird cos I listened to Dog Man Star yesterday for the first time in ages. I didn't really buy much of their stuff in the 90's though. I was a Blur/Oasis girl (strange considering the rivalry).

P.S. Did anyone else think that Brett was hot (in a kinda skinny boy way)???

Yes. I think outside of Europe they had to call themselves London Suede because they got sued by some kind of unknown singer/songwriter who called herself Suede before them.

I saw Suede for the first time on the Dog Man Star-Tour in Cologne and before and after the concerts of this Tour they played Around the World in a Day in its entirety. When Temptation ended, they came on stage.

Brett Anderson seems to be a big Prince Fan. He also visited Paisley Park once and there he got to know Tony Hoffer (the Beck-Producer) and he wanted him to produce the next release by Suede. But the sessions didn´t work out well and the material was shelved.

nod I remember years ago, in the NME, Brett was asked to pick his Top Ten All-Time Tracks or something. One of his selections was 'Condition Of The Heart' and he described it as having 'perfect' vocals. If I remember correctly, he talked about how Prince gives 100% emotion in this song.

I ain't so sure about this. Of course it would be great if they were both still at their peak, but I think they both peaked years ago. I still dug Suede after Bernard left, but it was never the same. I have a couple of Bernard's solo discs and they are ok but he ain't much of a singer. On paper it works great but will there still be any chemistry? I guess we will have to wait and see.

Why the new name? Why not just call it Suede?

It was basically Brett´s decision to split Suede because he felt that he needed new inspiration. The other band members were very disappointed by his decision and to go on under the the same name would have been very insensitive towards them I think. The Tears are Anderson, Butler plus a drummer called Mako Sakamoto and a bass-player called nathan fisher.

But I agree that the name Suede is much better that The Tears because there are so many other "The bands" out there at the moment.

when my BF wants to annoy me he uses THOSE names.

so, am I in the minority here? I actually LIKED Head Music. I thought it was a bit silly but fun and a nice change of pace for the band. The last CD though (new morning?) was a snooze fest.

Still nothing compares to the strength of their first albums and the Stay Together single.

Thanks for the explanation. I usually try to keep up on these things but lately Suede have been flying under my radar.

I didn't think Head Music was that bad. Sure, it pales next to their first three albums, but it had plenty of great tracks. I especially loved "She's In Fashion". Great song. Very dreamy.

Give New Morning a few more spins, maybe it will start to grow on you? Especially since it was their last.

Thanks, I didn't know about the release date, but I will be definitely be looking out for that one.

Used to have a bit of a soft spot for Suede back in the day and it will be interesting to see what sound these guys are coming up with today.

hmmm

that's tough

They rotate a bit depending on my mood.

For sheer pop value (not to mention one of the sassiest uses of the "la la la" chorus) is The Beautiful Ones.

Besides that, it rotates between: So Young, The Wild Ones, Stay Together and Still Life.

After the superb "Coming up" which is my favorite Suede-Album things could only get worse. Thats why "Head Music" was slightly disappointing. I guess Brett´s drug-addiction at the time is to blame for that. But I think there are still come great tracks on it like Indian Strings, She´s in Fashion, Everything will flow and Can´t get enough.

My favorite Suede tracks at the moment are: By the Sea, Filmstar, The 2 of us, Animal nitrate, She´s not dead, My Dark Star, The living Dead, The next life, So Young
