I used to love them, especially their slow jams. I have their best of CD. Their slow stuff kind of reminds me of the Force MD's. They were out around the same time. I used to like getting groovy with my boyfriend at the time.
lol
Too bad that love songs like that are seldom made these days, seems like it anyway.

I really like their first album. It borrowed alot of elements from the "Minneapolis Sound".I preferred the uptempo songs...the ballads are too slick and suffered from weak lyrics. The track "Digital Display" was da jam! My favorite song is the last track "I'm The One Who Loves You".What a weird beat, huh? Sounds like an outtake from Prince's '1999'."Human Toy" and "Ceramic Girl" are also great songs. The album sounds horribly dated now,but back in 1985/86,you couldn't resist these songs.

In 1986,I bought their second album 'Long Time Coming',which I liked even better than the debut.Songs like the raunchy "Mary Goes Round","Do You Get Enough" and the super-funky "Some People Don't Care" are superb. This time around, they even had a ballad that I liked,"It's All A Game".They're still borrowing heavily from the Minneapolis Sound. The most Prince-sounding song is "Baby (Let Me Love You)",which has a synth line reminiscent of "Little Red Corvette",and percussion effects that sound like Prince's 1982/83 work.

In 1988,I made the mistake of buying their third album 'Rough N' Ready',which is a fiasco. They ditched the Minneapolis Sound in favor of a New Jack Swing sound that was already being done more impressively by acts like Guy.

True about the newjack thing. They did the same on their "straight down to business" album, yet infact most of that was crap.

'Straight Down To Business' was garbage.By 1991,they were already over.

I wonder why they don't just get together with The Jets,Five Star and The Force MDs and do some kind of "80s R&B Band Revival Tour"? They need to ride the wave of 80s nostalgia.

WOW U hit da nail on da head!

It was the Minneapolis funk that kept them in place.
I listened 2 their new album yeasterday and I didnt like what I heard that much. about 99.5% of the album was slow jams that sounded like they couldve been sung by any old R&B cat out now and I wouldnt have known the difference at all. Well RFTW will always be one of my favorite groups just for those 2 albums they had alone.
